India's Ministry of Defense has placed the largest order for the purchase of tanks in recent years

65

India's Ministry of Defense places largest purchase order in recent years tanks for their armed forces. The total order value is $ 1,02 billion.

With these funds, the Indian military department is going to purchase 118 tanks. Moreover, all these tanks are of Indian design and Indian production. We are talking about such a technique as the Arjun Mk-1A.

The parameters of the contract are as follows: within 30 months, five Arjun tanks must be delivered to the troops. Then, annually, the Indian army will receive about three dozen such combat vehicles.

Ministry of Defense of India:

118 Arjun Mk-1A tanks will replenish the arsenal of our army, consisting of T-72, T-90 tanks and the original modifications of the Arjun tank.

The Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Armed Forces, General Manoj Mukund, noted that Indian tank units need to be updated and replenished in their arsenals.

The contract was signed 8 months after the approval of the program for the development of the tank component of the Indian troops by representatives of the Council for Defense Purchases of India.

The Arjun Mk-1A is an upgraded version of the Arjun Mk-1 main battle tank currently in service with the army.

General Mukund:

The Arjun Mk-1A tank has about 72 upgrades compared to the base Mk-1 model. These are both new aiming systems and fire control systems. The tank has new reactive armor, modern target detection and identification systems. It is mobile and technologically advanced.

It is expected that a new order for 118 tanks for the Indian army will create about 8 thousand new jobs and attract about two hundred Indian suppliers.

According to the Indian commander-in-chief, the tank was designed in such a way that it "is well suited for protecting the state border." At the same time, a number of Indian experts are very skeptical about the updated "Arjun" due to the fact that its weight, according to some sources, has exceeded 62 tons. Some time ago, the Indian media reported that the Arjun Mk-1A is almost 10 tons heavier than the base version! This is despite the fact that the basic version of the Arjun Mk-1 tank has a mass of about 58 tons.

If we pay attention to the amount of the contract, it turns out that one Arjun Mk-1A tank will cost the Indian budget more than $ 8 million. This compares to the price of the most expensive tanks in the world today, including the Korean K2 Black Panther.

This money is recorded in two columns at once:
      1.expendable, budget, armament costs.
      2. GDP - arms production (even if there is money that will be stolen, they will still be credited to the GDP).

In addition, salaries and taxes come from this amount.

A Korean tank may be cheaper, but all this money will go to Korea, for India, from the economic point of view, only losses.

Because it's hot in India. There welders work in slippers. Yes, argon-rich mixture in semi-automatic welding, but spatter is not 100% eliminated. Even during the manufacture of the tank, the armor has to be trimmed with oxygen (with different heating), here, in general, sandals are out ... The same Indian manufacturers of the T-90 prefer (when the government gives them money) to assemble tanks from hulls and towers made in Russia.

These are generally the questions of subcontractors. Or do you think ALL components should be produced within the same perimeter? For an assembly line, 1-2 workshops are enough. Even more with such a serial production as 5 tanks in 30 months, followed by 30 tanks a year. Bo at a large plant will obviously have a separate foundry division, a heat treatment shop, etc.
Well, maybe the Indians build it all anew and separately for each separate project ...

The T-90 tank of the old modifications has been assembled for about a year, the T-90ms, the "Armata" for about two years (in real life, even a little longer). A battleship in Russia is good if it is executed in 80 years. First, you will need to decide on the construction site of the corresponding shipyard. If you have read the articles of experts, there are very few places and they are not all on the Moscow Sea. Then, it will be necessary to build there the shipyard itself, a city, so to speak, of shipbuilders. Then you will need a lot of money to buy (so far only) iron for your battleship and transport it (iron) to the selected Tmutarakan. At the same time, it will be necessary to catch future shipbuilders (prisoners and other Tajiks will not ride, see Ragozin's successes).
