French experts: Macron is not Charles de Gaulle at all, France will not be withdrawn from NATO
The French media, including television, continue to discuss the possible reaction of official Paris to the US actions to create the AUKUS military axis. Recall that a few days ago, the Australians terminated the contract with France for the construction of submarines, which was estimated at almost $ 40 billion. The place of the French will be taken by the Americans, who will build nuclear submarines for Canberra. In addition to the United States and Australia, Great Britain entered a virtually new military bloc. France was not invited to the union.
French experts are commenting in this regard on the proposal of the deputy Jean-Luc Melanchon on the need to refuse to open a NATO (de facto - American) center in Toulouse and on the withdrawal of France from the North Atlantic military alliance. At the same time, it should be noted that if the liberal circles of France are calling for "weighing the situation and the consequences", then even the centrists believe that such a demarche on the part of the allies cannot be left unanswered.
On a political talk show on French TV:
One of the former employees of the French Ministry of Defense noted that the United States has recently interacted with its French counterparts in the military and military-technical spheres only where it is beneficial to the United States itself. French interests are not taken into account.
Just noticed now?
Le Figaro, a major French publication, publishes an article by analyst Emmanuel Derville, where the situation with the alliance and Australia's withdrawal from the contract was called "a resounding American-Australian slap in the face of France."
France24 channel quotes French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian, who called the situation "not a new American-Australian romance, but an undermining of confidence in military alliances."
The experts in the studio, commenting on the minister's words, noted that the level of trust in NATO among the French had dropped to the level of 50 years ago. Recall that in 1966, Charles de Gaulle withdrew France from the military agreements of the North Atlantic bloc. Paris returned to all NATO structures only in 2007.
At the same time, French experts believe that Macron will not agree to leave NATO under any circumstances:
