"The return in use will justify the investment": the Serbian press appreciated the "front-line" S-300VM air defense system

The Russian family of S-300 surface-to-air missile systems is split into two separate branches - air defense missile systems to cover especially important objects and "front-line" air defense systems. Serbia drew attention to the progress made in improving the S-300V, designed to protect ground forces on the front line of deployment.

The S-300VM variant and its export modification Antey-2500 is the latest iteration of the S-300V front-line air defense system. As noted in the Serbian edition of TS, the new product is able to effectively deal with a wide range of targets - modern and promising tactical and strategic aircraft, including stealthy ones; medium-range ballistic missiles; tactical, aeroballistic and cruise missiles; AWACS aircraft; reconnaissance and attack unmanned systems.

Systems of the S-300V line in relation to the S-300P family of air defense systems belong to a separate type of missile systems. These are two completely different directions of development

- indicated in the publication.

As explained, the S-300V (VM) have greater mobility and mobility, better maneuverability (due to the tracked platform), increased anti-aircraft potential, since the SAM battery, equipped with six separate guidance and illumination radars, has the ability to track 6 targets. One division, consisting of 2-4 batteries, is already capable of operating 12-24 objects. The S-300Vs are armed with faster missiles and can hit targets at zero speed, with very low reflections from surfaces that fly at an altitude of only 25 meters.

S-300V systems are to some extent even more powerful and durable than complexes from the S-300P family.

- evaluated the data of the air defense system in the Serbian press.

Recently, the components of the S-300VM system have been combined into a single network with elements of the Buk-M3 air defense system due to the appearance of a self-propelled radar in its composition. A newer complex "Abakan" has been created, designed to "supplement" systems with weaker anti-missile capabilities, such as the S-300PMU-1 and S-300PMU-2 Favorit. As explained in the publication, in fact, at the "Abakan" solutions were worked out, which were in demand in the recently appeared S-500 "Prometheus".

In general, the Antey-2500 air defense missile system, as an export version of the S-300VM, is a very impressive system with a complex [control] structure that requires a high level of qualifications to be effective and reliable. If the state, which purchases these systems, is able to create the necessary operating conditions for the air defense system, then the return in use will justify the investment in the acquisition of equipment

- the conclusion is made in Serbian TS.

... The S-300VM variant and its export modification Antey-2500 is the latest iteration of the S-300V front-line air defense system.
But what about the Antey-4000, created on the basis of the S-300V4?
... At the international arms exhibition in the United Arab Emirates, Russia demonstrated the Antey-4000 long-range air defense system and other promising weapons.

In fact, the Antey-4000 is an export version of the S-300V4. This complex is mounted not on a wheeled, but on a tracked base, which allows it to move in the advanced orders of land units, providing reliable cover against any type of air threats.

In the arsenal of the domestic novelty, there are two types of anti-aircraft missiles: a light one, which knocks down all targets moving at speeds of up to Mach 5 at a distance of up to 150 km, and a heavy one, which has a threshold of Mach 7,6 and reaches targets at a distance of 380 km and an altitude of 33 km. ... Plus, this version of the air defense system received an improved radar.

As a result, targets such as cruise missiles or drones are guaranteed to be destroyed with one shot from the Anthea. Stealth fighters and long-range aircraft are shot down by two launches, while ballistic missiles require three. At the same time, the complex itself is equipped with a set of 4 missiles.

Interestingly, an export version is planned for the S-350 "Vityaz"?

Interestingly, an export version is planned for the S-350 "Vityaz"?

For a long time there has been an export version of the C-350E. Naturally cut 60 km in range and 30 km in height of defeat.
The non-export version has the following, if you believe the TTX quote.
The missiles themselves on the Admiral Gorshkov are housed in four modules with eight cells (32 launchers in total). They are located in the bow of the ship between the A-130M universal 192-mm cannon and the Onyx / Caliber-NK cruise missile launchers. In each cell - one 9M96 missile with a range of targets up to 120 km or one 9M96D anti-aircraft missile, firing at 150 km. That is, these missiles are designed not only to protect the carrier ship, but also to ensure the zonal defense of naval formations. In the same cells, or rather in their parts, four 9M100 short-range missiles are placed, designed to destroy incoming objects at a distance of up to 15 km. The missiles are launched "cold", that is, they are thrown out of the vertical transport and launch container, and then deployed towards the target using gas-dynamic systems.

For 9M96 and 9M96D missiles, inertial command guidance is used on the cruising section of the trajectory, and active radar homing is used in the final section. The 9M100 short-range missile is equipped with an infrared homing head. The target is locked immediately after the missile is launched. SAM 9M96 and 9M96D destroy the warhead of a cruise missile attacking the ship with a direct hit with a probability of 70%, in the remaining 30% of cases, the deviation does not exceed several meters. The probability of hitting an airplane is 80%, a helicopter - 90%. The warhead of the 9M96 and 9M96D missiles weighing 24 kg has a controllable field of destruction. In other words, even if there is no direct hit, the target is still eliminated.

And one more important detail: the 9M96 and 9M96D missiles of the Polyment-Redut air defense system are unified with the SAM of the S-350 Vityaz land-based complex. This significantly reduces the cost of production and simplifies the preparation of calculations.

To eliminate missiles that managed to break through to the ship, the "Admiral Gorshkov" has two paired 30-mm six-barreled anti-aircraft artillery systems "Broadsword" with a rate of fire of 10 rounds per minute for each installation, located side by side in the aft part of the helicopter hangar. They are controlled by means of optoelectronic stations. However, target designation can also be issued from the Poliment radar.

According to a number of sources, for the Polyment-Redut air defense system, an ultra-long-range air defense missile system is currently being developed based on the 40N6 missile of the S-400 Triumph system. It can hit targets at a distance of up to 400 km. A new ammunition is also being created, working on the principle of "fire and forget" with an active homing head. And then the defensive "umbrella" of the "Polyment-Reduta" will open to its full extent.

And what for so "to be wise"? There is a 9M96E2 air defense missile with a range of up to 120 km and an altitude of up to 30 km ... for our own! For the "others", the 9M96E is offered with a range of up to 40 km and an altitude of up to 20 km ... What kind of ... "Zura" is still needed ?! stop

allows him to move in the advanced formations of land units,

      What about?
With its range, this is not necessary.
And with its cumbersome and rather large deployment time, it is also fraught with.

The complex must be mobile and not everywhere there are roads at the same time, therefore, it moves on tracks so that it can, if necessary, pass on off-road, this is military air defense.

          Yes, this is understandable, theoretically.
And in practice, I can't even think of where it could come in handy.
But I know for sure when it got in the way - back in the nineties they wanted to buy this complex in one (at least) not a poor country. But cars on tracks were not allowed on their roads, and our grief sellers could not find an elementary trailer quickly to take the equipment to the landfill. As a result, I had to load back into the plane and leave feeling badly.

I think that Serbia, given its relatively small territory, will be covered entirely by long-range object air defense systems.
The military air defense has enough short- and medium-range anti-aircraft weapons.
Let the anti-aircraft gunners correct if I'm wrong.

The cartoons are beautiful, but I didn't get it, but the KMK and how did the air defense find the low-flying Tomahawks? Aircraft or drone AWACS something is not to be seen. And again, what was the missile guidance?
