The final version of the modernized Challenger 3 tank was shown in Britain
The Rheinmetall BAE Systems Land (RBSL) consortium showed the final version of the main combat tank British Army Challenger 3. The equipment was demonstrated at the DSEI-2021 arms fair in London.
According to the Defense Blog on its Twitter page, the final version of the tank is shown at the exhibition, and it will be in this configuration that it will be supplied to the British army. However, no details about this modification are given.
As previously reported, the British Ministry of Defense decided to reduce the tank fleet from 227 units to 148. In this case, all remaining tanks will be upgraded to the Challenger 3 level - a version capable of participating in network-centric warfare. The modernization of combat vehicles will be carried out at the Rheinmetall BAE Systems Land (RBSL) plant located in Telford, Shropshire.
As previously reported, as part of the modernization, only the hull will be left from the tanks, which will be reinforced in the frontal projection. The tank will receive a new turret with "new generation modular armor" of British design, a 120-mm Rheinmetall Rh 120 L55A1 smoothbore tank gun and a remotely controlled machine-gun module. The Israeli Trophy MV active protection complex will be installed on the tank.
The upgraded tank will receive new fire control systems, surveillance and communications, digital electric drives. Standard Perkins 1200 hp diesel engine. it is supposed to be replaced by a German MTU of 1500 hp. The suspension of the tank is "hydropneumatic third generation".
