An agreement on the establishment of a Russian military base on the coast of the Red Sea in Sudan will be signed shortly, statements about new conditions allegedly put forward by Sudan do not correspond to reality. This was stated by the Charge d'Affaires of Sudan in Russia Onur Ahmad Onur.
The Sudanese diplomat denied information that appeared on the eve that Khartoum was asking for economic assistance in exchange for providing territory for a military base. According to him, the decision to create a Russian military base was made at the level of the defense ministers of the two countries, and there is "mutual understanding" on this issue.
It is not true. These news - not true. This is unfounded news. The Sudanese side is not asking for any payments in connection with the military base agreement
At the same time, he confirmed that "some changes" will be made to the agreement, which are being discussed at the level of the Russian-Sudanese commission on military-technical cooperation. After discussing all the nuances, the contract will be signed and it will happen "in the near future."
The day before, the media reported that Sudan intends to demand economic assistance from Russia in exchange for the provision of territory for the logistics center of the Russian Navy. At the same time, it was argued that the initial lease would be signed for a period of five years with a subsequent extension for another 25.
