CDB "Rubin" completed work on the creation of a submarine simulator "Surrogate"

The Rubin Central Design Bureau of Marine Engineering has completed work on the creation of a surrogate submarine simulator. This was announced by a representative of the Central Design Bureau.

Rubin specialists completed the creation of a marine unmanned aerial vehicle Robotcapable of simulating a submarine. "Surrogate" is able to confidently deceive aviation and shipborne detection systems. Work on the robot does not stop; in the future, it will be able to deceive stationary complexes as well.

Improvement of acoustic systems makes it possible to more and more confidently imitate the acoustic portrait of the submarine (...) "Rubin" presented a concept project of the "Surrogate" robotic complex for conducting exercises

- leads RIA News words of the representative of the Central Design Bureau.

The fact that Rubin was engaged in the development of a submarine simulator became known back in 2016, in 2020 it was reported that the stage of research work (R&D) on roboticdrone.

The development of the Central Design Bureau is intended for conducting exercises of the Navy, when the involvement of a real submarine distracts it from its main tasks, but it is necessary to preserve the realism of the exercises. The proposed apparatus, due to the modularity of its design, can imitate atomic and non-nuclear submarines, including those of foreign production. In addition, he can make mapping and reconnaissance.

According to available information, the Surrogate simulator is equipped with a lithium-ion battery, which provides training durations of up to 15-16 hours. It is emphasized that all this time he will reproduce the maneuvering of his submarine fleet or the enemy, including at high speeds.

The previously stated characteristics of the Surrogate: displacement - about 40 tons, cruising range - about 600 miles at a speed of 5 knots, maximum speed - over 24 knots, maximum immersion depth - 600 meters.

And just a cool name for a simulator! The "imitator" of the surrogate, or the "surrogate" of the imitator, the devil will break his leg, and not that the American anti-submarine warriors. laughing

-Connection of "Surrogates" with towed antennas (reproduction of acoustic and electric fields) to the process of our submarines leaving their bases for combat service will SIGNIFICANTLY add a "firebrand" for the foe in terms of tracking ..
        - Delivered, but already to the place of deployment, for example, the American nuclear submarine "Surrogate" will induce a "rustle". That will reveal their observation systems, the procedure for transmitting information, - T, E to reveal the organization of anti-submarine warfare. That will facilitate the actions of REAL Russian nuclear submarines off the coast of the United States.
All this will give advantages (and considerable ones) in submarine warfare.

This is not just a firebrand for an adversary, this is a significant cost saving, because it will be necessary to distract less combat units to cover the exit of SSBNs and SSNNs to the base. In addition, such surrogates in the Baltic and the Black Sea Fleet are simply irreplaceable. I think they can be taught the secretive setting of minefields and the reconnaissance of such obstacles. It is impossible to save here, - the savings will come after, when the fleet receives them.

Sure. Teach to simulate the setting of minefields. For with a displacement of 40 tons, he will not be able to take anything on board. The buoyancy reserve is not enough.

And who's stopping you from increasing the displacement? The main thing is to work out technologies.

Of course it will cope, only it is much more expensive, in any case it has a lot of noise even on batteries, it has a crew that needs to be risked. I perceive a surrogate as a prototype on the basis of which it is possible and necessary to develop underwater vehicles of various sizes and purposes. Similar work is also underway in the west. There are tremendous benefits to not having a crew. And Varshavyanka itself should become a carrier of such devices.

How and how will you deliver it? It weighs 40 tons! By transport? In the cargo hold? And you will unload it with what and how? Will you hang 40 tons overboard with a crane? And then the wind, the roughness of the sea, rolling. Will crash against the side. The overturning moment at this mass .... And then it will also have to be taken back and forth ... Such work is performed only in the port.
Travel range 600 miles. At 5 nodes. This is if there is no current. The power reserve for maneuvering, for the current, and "back". Well, they'll go down a hundred miles. What a surprise it will be for the foe! While they are unloading, they will run around the tourists. Admire the wondrous.

It is unrealistic, there is no sense, the secrecy of the deployment cannot be ensured.

          ..

It won't add anything at all. Because the launch of such a stickiness and its detection by the IPL will immediately make it clear that within the next 7-8 hours there will be a strategist's exit. And the IPL will be able to recognize it with the help of its observation equipment for a maximum of several hours.

In any case, there will be no savings because provision of deployment has not been canceled.

Simulators are needed only on the shore. To practice the initial skills of the crew and to practice the initial actions in various situations. At sea, during combat training, simulators are needed only for combat firing. No "Surrogate" can replace people when maneuvering, choosing tactics and acting in a non-standard situation. Crews' anti-submarine skills when using "Surrogates" will also be surrogate. Who needs it? To you?

Perhaps it will be like with electronic missile launches. They have not completely replaced the real ones.

It was about anti-submarine crew training. This is a very broad concept that includes many interrelated things. Electronic missile firing fulfills a narrow range of specific tasks. But when it is carried out, it is impossible to check the capabilities of the ship, the operation of hydraulics, depth control systems, and so on.
I had a case when, when using a training torpedo, they could not shoot. And "electronically" everything was fine. If it turned out in a real battle, it would not be necessary to look for the guilty ones.
You can't replace everything with imitators. It will be an imitation of combat training. Airplanes must fly, sail ships, tank crews knead tank courses, shooters must shoot live ammunition from normal submachine guns. Otherwise, it will not be the army and the navy, but their imitation.

This is how imitators are designed to complement combat training. Saving resources. Nowhere does it say that the "Surrogate" will completely replace the exercises with the participation of submarines.

Well, what did you minus for? Isn't the commentator right? Combat training at sea with simulators will only imitate it! Isn't it clear? It will be sheer nonsense. Only going out to sea, working on a real goal and practicing tactics and everything else will bring results. No other way. And when using the "Surrogate", the preparation will be surrogate.

        You are late my friend:
Poseidon is a multipurpose underwater vehicle. In its most formidable form, it is a nuclear deterrent weapon. Equipped with a 100-megaton nuclear warhead with a cobalt section, leading to the most "dirty" radiation contamination of a vast territory, it is much more effective than "classic" ICBMs.

I think "Surrogate" takes its roots precisely from "Poseidon".

The autonomous range is very short. Therefore, from the point of view of tracking the actions of the enemy, this boat (if it will be created at all) is, alas, not a masterpiece. Remains only for their teachings. Not to mention who and how will manage it. Underwater communication is carried out at ultra long waves, powerful antennas and transmitters are needed. Some sensor will short, and it will suddenly surface somewhere under some "Peter the Great". What then? Half-rundra?

when attracting a real submarine distracts it from its main tasks

Since when is the training of the submarine crew at sea not the main task in peacetime?
And so they stand at the piers, there is no coefficient of "tension".

Exercises of surface ships to search for submarines in the absence of a real submarine is bullshit on a bright moonless day! This I declare as a former BIP officer of a large nuclear missile-torpedo submarine. Submariners are people too, they also need to train. But for real goals! Everyone should do it! And submariners, and pilots, and surface watermen. To go out to sea "wall to wall", "blue" against "red" and "fight". Otherwise, when the thunder breaks out, it will be too late to be baptized.

      Saw the dough, definitely.
