M-60 tank with active protection system presented in Turkey

Turkish company Aselsan presented a new modernized version at IDEF 2021 tank M60TM, developed as part of the FIRAT-M60T project. MBT of American origin received the PULAT active protection system, also created by Aselsan.

The FIRAT project was launched to modernize the M60A3 fleet, which is in service with the Turkish army, in order to increase protection against current anti-tank threats, as well as obtain new combat capabilities.

The new version of the M60TM with KAZ combines several new subsystems: laser warning, remote control weapons, telescopic periscope, location and orientation, close-range observation, tank driver vision, protection, air conditioning, auxiliary system.

The main armament of the M60TM consists of the 120mm MG253 cannon, developed by the Israeli company IMI. It can fire all types of NATO 120mm ammunition as well as the LAHAT anti-tank guided missile.

The M60TM turret is equipped with a remotely controlled weapon station, which can be fitted with a 12,7 mm machine gun or 40 mm automatic grenade launchers. At the rear of the tower is a telescopic periscope system (TEPES) on a hydraulic mast, which provides reliable observation and the ability to detect targets in the "defilade" position [that is, when the target is behind cover].

PULAT is an active defense system capable of scanning threats up to 180 degrees in azimuth and 35 degrees in height and at a distance of up to 50 m and calculating the angle of approach. KAZ consists of a control panel, a power distribution unit and counteraction modules. Six cylindrical countermeasures are installed around the body, two on each side, one in the front and one in the back.

I do not presume to judge the effectiveness of this product, but now without KAZ ... well, not a camilfo. Somehow.

Somehow the modules sticking out outside the case do not add reliability to the system. In the Middle East, I don’t remember tank battles in the deserts ... but in the city it all will tear off nafig in the first half an hour, remember what tanks look like in battles in Syria to them even DZ tears off the sides ...

Did the Kurds check, especially the girls with the Cornet? For those, even the Lepard towers fly off into the bushes. And then 72, but 72 ka.

There is little information about the combat use of this tank. Although it is known for sure that he has been fighting in Syria for a couple of years.

The tank is noticeable painfully well ... the high tower, like a bell tower, unmasks it ... as I understood from the description of the KAZ, there is no protection from a blow from above ... Javelin can destroy a tank.

There is a song with the words "America gave Russia a steamer ..."laughing
the AZ PULAT system "created" by the Aselsan forces, with the leading role of Israeli specialists, on the basis of the Ukrainian "Zaslon-L", which is a variant of the "Dozhd" KAZ developed in the USSR.
the Chinese smoke nervously on the sidelines.

Israel and Turkey have severed military-technical cooperation since 2009. So the Turks created the KAZ themselves.

"Created" ... On the basis of the Ukrainian "Barrier"; but, in fact, the Soviet KAZ "Dozhd" ...

Duc, he is "Zaslon" ... only "Turkified"! (Actually, and the "Ukrainian" "Barrier" is a "slightly painted" Soviet KAZ "Dozhd"!)

Like a year ago I saw a video presentation of this "product". retractable mortars, a lot of pride, and only 6 combat-ready ammunition with a very narrow sector of impact each. Dull system. Although even such squalor is better than nothing like ours. KAZ of any kind (and many times more effective) created a carriage and a bogie, but in the series, something is not visible.

A bad tank is better than no tank. What we have:
    a) 120mm cannon. The firepower is similar to that of the Abrams. Everything is no problem here.
    b) Armor. Well, of course, M60. It is clear that the armor plates were added, it is unclear how combined, like on the T-62 "Brezhnev's eyebrows" or what. But again. Better than nothing.
    c) MSA. I think it's on the level. The Turks were able to calmly slam with the Leopard, and they also have good electronics. They, unlike some (we will not say who), have not ruined their industry and science for the last 30 years, but developed.
    d) Active protection. Obviously, it is not designed for everything. But if it protects against TOU, MILAN, HOT and RPG, it did its job. You see, the Kurds, and even Russia, do not have Javelin and Spike.

If there is no money to buy new tanks, then with YOUR OWN forces to modernize the old is quite a camilfo. Turks are great.
