The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said that at least fifty Ukrainian citizens could not be evacuated from Afghanistan. We will remind that earlier the Il-76MD aircraft of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine was sent to Kabul to evacuate Ukrainians and "to provide assistance to NATO countries".
In the message of the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Yevgeny Yenin, it is said that at the moment the complete evacuation of Ukrainians from Afghanistan has not been carried out. According to Yenin, there was a force majeure when a group of unknown armed men hijacked a Ukrainian plane sent to Kabul.
Deputy Foreign Minister of Ukraine:
Our plane was hijacked on Sunday. Armed men climbed aboard. They had a gunshot weapon, machines. They took control of the aircraft. And today - on Tuesday - they, in fact, having stolen an airplane from us, flew to Iran on it, placing persons unknown to us on board.
According to Yenin, "the evacuation of Ukrainians in this regard was thwarted." It is not clear where Ukraine's American partners, who control the airport, were looking.
The Deputy Foreign Minister pointed out that a total of three attempts were made to remove Ukrainian citizens from Afghanistan, but they all failed.
Yenin:
Ukrainian citizens simply could not get to the Kabul airport. They were unable to overcome the numerous cordons and the crowd of people that had accumulated there.
In Iran, at the moment, they do not comment on the information about the possible arrival of a Ukrainian special aircraft into the country, which, according to the Ukrainian official, was captured to Kabul.
