FSB RF: There is evidence of Japan's preparation for war with the Soviet Union since 1938
According to the FSB of the Russian Federation, this department has evidence of Japan's preparation for war with the Soviet Union since 1938. The documents confirming these facts were published for the first time.
This information became known to the agency RIA News, which got acquainted with the published materials of the archives.
An order to the units of the 1938rd Army of the Armed Forces of Japan, received on August 3, 9 during the armed conflict with the Soviet Union, which at that time erupted on Lake Khasan, testifies to the attack on the USSR that was being prepared since 1938. This order involved bringing the Japanese 3rd Army, which was located near the border, on full combat readiness in the event of the outbreak of hostilities.
This information was obtained during the interrogation of the last commander of the Kwantung Army, Otozo Yamada, before the start of the Khabarovsk Tribunal in 1949. In 1938 he led the 3rd Army. Yamada confirmed that this order is evidence of increased preparations for military action against the USSR. At the same time, great importance was attached to the use of bacteriological weaponsprohibited by the Geneva Convention. And the two-week conflict on Lake Khasan, which ended with the victory of the Red Army, served as "reconnaissance in force".
