Brazil was offered to become a global partner of NATO
Brazil has been offered to become NATO's global partner, but if agreed, it will have to fulfill some prerequisites. This South American country received this invitation from the United States.
This was reported by the Brazilian newspaper Folha de S. Paulo, citing representatives of the country's defense ministry.
The invitation to cooperate with the North Atlantic Alliance was announced during the meeting of the US President's Assistant for National Security Jake Sullivan with the head of the Brazilian defense department Souzu Braga Neto, which took place in the Brazilian capital, Brasilia.
Accepting the status of a global partner by this country presupposes a number of privileges and American military assistance, but for this it must refuse to attract companies from China to mobile 5G networks on its territory.
There is no consensus on this issue among the top officials of the Brazilian Ministry of Defense. Some of them agree with this condition, while others argue that they are quite satisfied with the cooperation with the Chinese company Huawei, since when using its equipment, no difficulties and problems arose.
At the moment, the North Atlantic Alliance has nine global partners. These include Iraq, Afghanistan, Australia, Japan, South Korea, Mongolia, Pakistan, New Zealand and Colombia. As you can see, there are no South American countries on the list.
