The Lithuanian court sentenced the former deputy of the Seimas to prison "for espionage in favor of Russia"

In Lithuania, court hearings were held in the case of diplomat Algirdas Paleckis. Paleckis ended up in the dock on charges of espionage for the Russian Federation.

Today the Siauliai city court found the diplomat and former parliamentarian guilty of transferring classified information to Russian representatives. The court found the arguments of the prosecution convincing, which stated that the Lithuanian politician in 2017-2018 was allegedly a member of a criminal group that “for a monetary reward transferred to the representatives of Russia data obtained during the use of his official position”.

About what information the ex-deputy of the Seimas transferred to Russia (if such a transfer took place at all ...) is not reported.

By the decision of the Siauliai court, Algirdas Paleckis will now go to a colony for six years. Also, a guilty verdict was passed against a citizen of the Russian Federation, who was found guilty in the "January 13, 1991" case. As you can see, within the framework of one court session in Lithuania, cases can be heard that, by and large, are in no way connected with each other - the main thing is that the word "Russia" appears in them ...

But the Lithuanian to undertake Deimantas Bertauskas will not be sent to the colony. The court took into account that he admitted his guilt, being another person involved in the Paleckis case. At one time, he reportedly confessed and "pleaded guilty."

It is worth noting that Paleckis's lawyers intend to appeal against the decision of the Siauliai court in a higher court. They have such an opportunity.

In Lithuania itself, commenting on the verdict of the politician, they say that the current authorities cannot forgive Paleckis for being the grandson of the 1st Chairman of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the Lithuanian SSR, Justas Paleckis.

the archives of the KGB from the Baltic States, we still managed to withdraw.

If you will allow, then not everything was taken out - this is an example of the regularly pop-up discussions about the fate of the "KGB sacks": open? open access?

They all wanted to use them as a weapon against political opponents, and to ensure their own absence from the lists.

    A very lenient sentence.

Shurik (Prisoner of the Caucasus) would have got to Lithuania today, as if the "chapel" had been hung. As a great ... great-grandson of the "Russian saboteur"

Paleckis tries to be adequate in the Lithuanian political madhouse. The persecution began after he said on the radio that the events of 91 at the television center still need to be sorted out in order to understand who was shooting at whom. According to Lithuanian laws, for doubts in the official version of events, as well as in the interpretation of other historical events, a criminal sentence is threatened! Now, articles about "espionage" have appeared in the set of political tools ... Democracy is the dictatorship of democrats!

And the son of Justas Paleckis and the father of Algirdas Paleckis had a hand in the separation of Lithuania from the USSR, he is a respectable Lithuanian politician. I wonder how he feels about the persecution of his son?

Party-Soviet leadership of the Lithuanian SSR (Snechkus, Paleckis and others) in the 40-70s. was more authoritative and enjoyed greater influence in the union structures in comparison with the leadership of the Estonian and especially the Latvian SSR. Snechkus was the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Lithuania from 1940 to 1974. Stalin, Khrushchev and Brezhnev treated him well. Under Brezhnev, the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Estonian Communist Party Kabin was also highly respected.

We need to work with the Lithuanian authorities about Paleckis. He was slandered by a business partner. You can appoint someone in Moscow as a Lithuanian spy. No exchange, no. Agree in an amicable way.

what The main source of law in most mainland European states of the legal system (including Russia) is the codified criminal law (criminal code).
The Criminal Procedure Code of the Russian Federation provides for Art. 153 consolidation of several criminal cases, for example, in relation to one person who has committed several crimes.
In this case, the "Lithuanian Themis" combined several criminal cases against the subject "Russia" into one, and considered within the framework of one trial (joke: for "hot Baltic guys" wink .
