Rumors about the involvement of Russian border guards in guarding the border with Afghanistan have been denied in Tajikistan
Russian border guards will not be involved in protecting the Tajik-Afghan border, this issue is not on the agenda. This was announced by the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan, Sirojiddin Mukhriddin.
A press conference of the Tajik Foreign Ministry was held in Dushanbe, during which the Foreign Minister denied rumors about the return of Russian border guards to the border with Afghanistan in connection with the situation there due to the Taliban offensive (the movement was recognized as terrorist and prohibited in Russia).
According to Sirojiddin Mukhriddin, a group of Russian border advisers continues to work on the territory of the republic, no additional forces are planned. According to him, Tajikistan has enough of its own forces to control the border, besides, Russia and Tajikistan cooperate in the military sphere not only in a bilateral format, but also through the CSTO, within the framework of which an assistance program has been adopted to strengthen the border with Afghanistan.
Earlier it was reported that Russia has allocated funds for the construction of a new checkpoint and border outpost on the border of Tajikistan and Afghanistan. As a result, Tajik border guards should receive an infrastructure with modern technology and equipment.
Meanwhile, fears are expressed that the Taliban will soon be able to take full control of the border with Tajikistan, as it has already done in the Chinese and Indian sectors. At the beginning of July, they controlled up to 80% of the Afghan-Tajik border. In connection with the current situation, the Tajik authorities turned to the CSTO for help.
