According to Zaxid.nеt, the dismantling of the monument, which began in 2018, has finally been completed, the last two figures of the monument - the Soviet soldier and the Motherland-Mother - have been dismantled. - writes the edition.
The decision to dismantle the monument in 2018 was made by the Lviv City Council, as stated, due to the emergency condition of the monument and "at the request of the population." Ukrainian radicals especially insisted on the demolition of the monument, proposing to blow it up in order to quickly "get rid of the Soviet legacy." The fact that the dismantling of the monument was carried out for three years, and the first attempts to demolish the monument, created from granite and bronze, generally failed, can speak of the "accident rate" of the monument. The city council of Lviv allocated 300 thousand hryvnias for the destruction of the monument.
The "Monument to the Military Glory of the Armed Forces of the Soviet Union" was erected in May 1970. The sculptural composition was created by famous Lviv artists Emmanuil Misko, Dmitry Krvavich and Yaroslav Motyga. The monument consisted of a sculptural group, a stele and a monument with six bas-reliefs in honor of the soldiers of the Soviet army who liberated Lviv in 1939 and 1944.
