Chose Mi-171 instead of heavy "Chinook": the press is outraged by the purchase of Russian helicopters by the Philippines

56

In the Philippines, a program for the procurement of military equipment under the designation Horizon 2 is being implemented, under which heavy helicopters are to be purchased, which are currently absent in the troops.

According to PHDefenseResourse, the final decision was made to equip the army with 16 Russian Mi-171s (most likely in the Mi-171Sh modification) and, possibly, another VIP-version (as a gift). The total cost of the contract is estimated at $ 265 million.

Since the Mi-171 is actually a medium and not a heavy helicopter, the question arises: why did the Philippine Air Force decide to purchase them?

- are perplexed in the local press about the final choice.

As noted, it would be much logical to expect the acquisition of American CH-47F Chinook helicopters. The MaxDefense Philippines explains that the country's president, Rodrigo Duterte, initially leaned in favor of Russian technology. But in the end, he authorized the purchase from the United States of 16 multipurpose vehicles S-70i "Black Hawk Down", however, setting a prerequisite: in any case, purchase helicopters from Russia, either transport, or attack, or both. It seems that this requirement is fulfilled within the framework of the Horizon 2 program, although it is intended to replenish the army with heavy vehicles.

As predicted, the actual contract for the supply of the Mi-171 will be signed in the third quarter of 2021, and the shipment of the first batch of equipment should take place before June 2022, that is, until the end of Duterte's presidential term.

There will not be so many of them in the entire Russian Federation, including our internal Dagestani Azerbaijanis. And so, even with the naked eye, a clear decrease in the number of Azerbaijanis on the streets of Moscow is noticeable compared to the period 15-20 years ago. Well, this is if you know how to distinguish an Azerbaijani from an Armenian, Uzbek or Kyrgyz, or from representatives of the North Caucasian peoples.

Well, they would have written South Africa, which modernized MI-24, I would have kept silent, so there is no USA and Israel. Before rolling the barrel towards Azerbaijan, remember that in 2014 Azerbaijan purchased a Mi-17-1V in the amount of 20 units. And this is the loot for which people in Russia live (manufacturer's plant) 13 Mi-8 units, as well as about 30 Mi-35 units that successfully participated in the Karabakh war. Calculate how much money it is and how many families have the opportunity to feed themselves thanks to such orders. Don't be that person. You have not distinguished friend from enemy.

And who will compete with us?
            Turks?
So far, all users are satisfied with the quality of our equipment. Both in the BV and in the Transcaucasus. Tea on our tanks recently and you fought.
So our helicopters are in stable demand and respect.
Or are you talking about Turkish?
            With Ukrainian engines?
So the Turks still need to be able to do this.
And Kraina-U may disappear from the map very soon.
And where are the engines from then?
Iraq, Syria, Egypt, Iran - they are satisfied with our weapons.
The Turks have successes in this direction, but this is a new business for them, the quality and reliability are in question, and all this very much depends on imported equipment.
And with a complete set they / you have problems even from NATO allies.
So the prospects of success for the Turks are still in question, but here it is an indisputable fact.
And that's just a fact, no offense to you. And what will happen next, time will tell.

Our Mi-24 \ 35, as a rule, have always been out of competition. For there is an airborne squad, and the wounded can be evacuated, and the commanders can be ridden under armor.
Our air defense division had its own squadron on the Mi-24, so sometimes the commander-in-chief was rolled on them.
Mi-8 and Mi-17 \ 171 are the best in the world in terms of all criteria.
And the drums Mi-28 and Ka-52 are really, only now - in the latest modification they have been brought to a truly modern level. But they already exist, and over time, all helicopters of the first series will be upgraded to this level.
The main thing now is to bring the quantity and quality of the engines produced for them to the required level. While they are not enough.

The Mi-171 is a proven machine and is quite sufficient for the Filipinos.
We do not yet have our own engines for the Mi-26, and Ukrainian ones, for obvious reasons, are not available.
The Mi-38 is still raw and with engines there is also finishing work. And so far, only a couple of them have been purchased for ourselves.

I think when they make their own engine for the Super-Jet-100, the same for the Be-200, a turboshaft version of it for the Mi-26 will appear a little later.
