MiG-31K with the "Dagger" missile - this complex is already on duty

New samples are being developed for the aerospace forces aviation missile systems, incl. hypersonic systems. One complex of this kind has already been put on alert, and new ones are expected to appear in the future. Along with other things weapons, combat aviation will receive the "Ostrota" complex, the development of which became known a few weeks ago.

According to unofficial data

Izvestia reported about the development work of Ostrot in May. From unknown sources, they obtained some technical and organizational data, as well as a work schedule. This information has been published and is of great interest.

It is reported that the head developer of the "Ostrota" complex is the State Medical Design Bureau "Raduga" them. AND I. Bereznyak; The propulsion system of a new type is being created by the Turaev Machine-Building Design Bureau "Soyuz" - both enterprises are part of the Tactical Missile Armament Corporation. While the project is under development.

A new type of hypersonic missile system is intended for use by missile-carrying bombers of front-line and long-range aviation. Su-34 and Tu-22M3 aircraft are named as its carriers. The missile, for which the designation has not yet been chosen, will be smaller and lighter than other Russian-developed hypersonic aviation weapons. Flight performance, guidance method, type and parameters of the warhead were not reported.

"Sharpness" and others. Hypersonic weapons for videoconferencing

The hypersonic flight will be powered by a ramjet engine. This product is created at the Soyuz Design Bureau and bears the working designation Product 71. The design features and characteristics of such a product are unknown.

It is reported that flight tests of the new rocket will begin next year. Further plans of the customer and developers have not been specified. The complexity of the hypersonic direction allows us to assume that testing and fine-tuning the "Ostrota" will take several years. Accordingly, the finished complex will enter service with the Aerospace Forces only in the second half of this decade.

Hypersound for aviation

A new weapon with high flight characteristics is being developed for our military aviation. It is noteworthy and important that the Ostrota complex will no longer be the first model of its class in service with the Russian Aerospace Forces. By the time it appears, there will be at least two hypersonic munitions in the bomber armament range.

The first aviation hypersonic missile system is already in the army. At the end of 2017, the Dagger complex, which includes the MiG-31K carrier aircraft and a new aeroballistic missile, was put on experimental combat duty. According to known data, the "Dagger" rocket develops a speed of at least 10M and is capable of delivering a 500-kg warhead at a distance of over 1000 km.

Start "Dagger"

At the moment, the carrier of the "Dagger" is a modified MiG-31K interceptor. In the future, the modernized long-range bomber Tu-22M3M will be able to carry the new missile. It was also reported about the possibility of its integration into the armament complex of the promising Su-57 fighter.

Not so long ago, in February this year, it became known about the development of another hypersonic missile for aircraft. The product with the code "Gremlin" has been created by the KTRV enterprises since 2018. By the time of the first reports on the project, individual rocket units were tested. In addition, the layout of such a weapon was tested in flight on the suspension of a Su-57 fighter.

The Gremlin rocket receives the Product 70 ramjet engine developed by the Soyuz Design Bureau. The first bench tests of such an engine were planned for the near future. State joint tests of the missile will begin in 2023. It was mentioned that the new missile will be carried by the Tu-22M3 bomber of the latest modification, as well as the Su-57, Su-35S and Su-30SM fighters.

New opportunities

In all likelihood, the Ostrota and Gremlin will be air-to-ground missiles capable of striking stationary or mobile targets. In this capacity, they will complement the existing "Dagger". Their flight range remains unknown, but it can be assumed that it will exceed several hundred kilometers.

The high flight speed of the new missiles, no less than 5-7 M, will provide a modern and promising breakthrough in the enemy's air and missile defense. Modern technologies also make it possible to ensure high accuracy of targeting and high power of the warhead. It is assumed that the missiles of the three types have different ranges. Thanks to this, the blow can be performed using a product that more fully corresponds to the task at hand.

Reportedly, all new samples of hypersonic weapons will be compatible with different carriers. Missiles of three types will enter service with long-range and front-line aviation - and products of the same type can be used to solve different tasks. The use of "Sharpness" or "Gremlin" by a fighter of the Su-30SM or Su-57 type will be distinguished by relative simplicity, and the Tu-22M3M bomber will be able to dramatically increase the overall combat radius of the missile system. It is curious that for the first time in domestic practice, long-range and front-line aviation will receive a common weapon - and with it the well-known advantages associated with unification.

It should be noted that the emergence of new weapons will have a positive effect on the prospects of aircraft. For example, the Tu-22M3 is currently undergoing modernization, due to which the resource is increased and the service life is extended. Its standard weapons are becoming obsolete and will require replacement in the future. With the help of the "Dagger" or "Gremlin" it will be possible to solve this problem.

Tu-22M3M - future carrier of aviation hypersonic missiles

The emergence of "Ostrota" and "Gremlin" will also expand the range of weapons for several types of fighters and bombers. This will increase the potential of front-line aircraft when working against ground targets, bringing it as close as possible to the capabilities of long-range bombers.

The future of videoconferencing

Thus, in a few years, three new missile systems with different characteristics and capabilities will appear in the arsenals of the Aerospace Forces. Products with different parameters and potential, compatible with different carriers, will increase the flexibility of the use of long-range and front-line aviation in solving a wide range of tasks.

However, all the new opportunities and advantages will be obtained only in the distant future. Tests of new missile systems will begin only in 2022-23, and all the necessary measures will be completed in a few more years. Then some time will be spent on the development of production and operation in the army. As a result, all new opportunities will not be available until the middle of the decade.

Overall, however, the situation is conducive to optimism. In the interests of the Aerospace Forces, several new models of hypersonic weapons are being created, and it cannot be ruled out that the following projects of this kind will start in the future. In addition, the hypersonic direction is not limited only to aircraft systems, which in the medium term will seriously change the capabilities of the armed forces as a whole.

And yes. At least some breakthrough is indicated in the field of hypersonic weapons control. I hope that in the air-to-air weapon class, there will be progress in this area. Very promising.

Rave. The Tu-22M3M will not be able to accelerate to the speed required to give the required acceleration to the Dagger, unlike the MiG-31K, therefore the MiG-31 was chosen as the carrier of the Dagger. Also, no one will try to equip the Su-57 with the Dagger, it has the task of gaining air superiority and versatility, in addition, there is already a MiG-31K for using the Dagger, and then it makes sense to fence a vegetable garden.

... In all likelihood, the Ostrota and Gremlin will be air-to-ground missiles capable of striking stationary or mobile targets. In this capacity, they will complement the existing "Dagger". Gremlin is a GZUR about the development of which the Western press wrote back in 2017, therefore the development of the GZUR began earlier than 2018.

... A hypersonic aircraft missile, codenamed "Gremlin", will take off in two years: tests are scheduled for 2023. In some documents, the product is called GZUR - hypersonic guided missile. In terms of its dimensions, the Gremlin will be smaller than the previously adopted Kh-47M2 Dagger. Due to its small size, the GZUR can be used not only from the side of heavy bombers and MiG-31 interceptors. Its carriers can be the long-range supersonic missile carrier Tu-22M, as well as fighters Su-57, Su-30SM and Su-35. In fact, the Russian Air Force will receive superweapons. Indeed, according to experts, it is almost impossible to repel the strike of such a complex with modern air defense systems.

. The official characteristics of the promising missile were not reported. Presumably, the GZUR will have a range of up to 1,5 thousand km and a hypersonic speed of Mach 6. The same characteristics of an unnamed developing ammunition were announced in 2013 by the ex-Commander-in-Chief of the Air Force, Colonel-General Alexander Zelin.

The subcontracts concluded by KTRV under the contract for the Gremlin R&D Center also mention the seeker head (GOS) "Gran K-02" developed by JSC UPKB Detal. It is known that a variant of this active-passive seeker is used on modernized anti-ship missiles. It is capable of providing the GZUR with the ability to defeat not only land, but also surface targets.

This will increase the potential of front-line aircraft when working against ground targets, bringing it as close as possible to the capabilities of long-range bombers.

Sharpness is essentially a smaller version of the GZUR. More compact and less long-range.

. As previously reported by Izvestia, a long-range hypersonic missile "Gremlin" is also being developed for Tu-22M3 bombers, the tests of which are to be completed in 2023. Sharpness will have a shorter range compared to it.

... Testing of a new small-sized hypersonic missile "Ostrota" for bombers should begin next year, Izvestia learned. Aircraft armed with such ammunition will become part of the Russian non-nuclear deterrent force. The new missiles will help our country maintain a leading position in this high-tech type of weapon, with their help it is possible to deliver irresistible strikes against the most protected objects, experts noted.
The new missile will be used by long-range bombers Tu-22M3 and operational-tactical Su-34, sources in the defense department told Izvestia. The start of flight tests of the ammunition, which does not yet have an official designation, is scheduled for 2022, follows from the schedule of work on the project (available at Izvestia's disposal).

In fact, the GZUR "promised" to be adopted as early as 2015, "somewhere and approximately" ...! Whatever it was ... "in theory", the GZUR should already be in service and produced at a "speed" of up to 50 units per year ...! So ... whoever will re-read the figures of the promised dates, let him remember the "promise" about the GZUR! tongue

You yourself are absurd delirium. Why accelerate a rocket launch vehicle? Have you forgotten that this is an Iskander-m rocket, which differs only in the way it is attached to the launcher and in the ANS settings?

Then that the principle of operation of the Dagger missile system is based on this.
One of the features of the "Dagger" is its launch from an altitude of 12-15 thousand kilometers from an "upper stage" flying at supersonic speed. Figuratively speaking, this is such a slingshot, which initially gives a high speed to the rocket at launch, and then it itself, like a sprinter, picks up the necessary pace and overcomes supersonic tenfold. The ideal solution was to use the MiG-31 fighter, which is capable of accelerating at low altitudes up to 1500 km / h, and at high altitudes - up to 3400 km / h. The disadvantage of using this high-altitude fighter can be considered only the possibility of raising one rocket.

              https://svpressa.ru/war21/article/302572/

... On May 9, two MiG-31K fighters with Dagger complexes took part for the first time in the aviation part of the Victory Day parade in Moscow. "Dagger" is designed to destroy land and sea targets. The MiG-31 long-range supersonic all-weather fighter, created by the MiG RSK back in the Soviet Union and put into service in 1981, was chosen as the carrier. Foxhound (translated as "Foxhound"), as it is called in the West, is a veteran of the Aerospace Forces of the Russian Federation, however, in terms of its speed and altitude characteristics, it is still unique.

The MiG-31 can easily climb to an altitude of 25 km, accelerate to 3000 km / h, and then the rocket, having reached the drop point in a matter of minutes, begins its autonomous movement. Nuclear and conventional warheads are delivered to the target at a distance of up to 2 km. At the same time, it can deliver a serious blow to the enemy without entering his zone, which is seriously protected by an air defense-missile defense system. Due to such high performance characteristics of the MiG-31, a hypersonic missile with low radar signature and high maneuverability of the Kinzhal complex has no analogues in the world.

Ten MiG-31K with the "Dagger" are already on experimental combat duty. Since December 2017, the first aviation formation in the Southern Military District (YuVO), equipped with these complexes, has begun duty, during which the basics of its combat use are being worked out. “And this is far from fiction,” says Borisov. “Moreover, this is a class of high-precision weapons that have a multifunctional warhead that allows them to work on both stationary and moving targets. In particular, aircraft carriers and ships of the cruiser, destroyer, and frigate class - potential targets for this weapon. "

This is not from the author of the fantasy, but the technical task from the developers:
Сообщается, что the Su-57 fighter will be able to carry the Gremlin missile on an internal sling. This means that such a product is no longer than the largest domestic air-to-air missiles and its length does not exceed 4-4,5 m. Weight parameters are unknown. It is easy to see that in this case the Gremlin rocket turns out to be much more compact and lighter than the already known Dagger.

5 aircraft from the Aerospace Forces will probably be able to sink someone in the Black Sea. If no one interferes with them and the air defense and electronic warfare, someone will turn off the foe. But this is already from the category of fantasy or alternative history.

Even if these missiles are brought to mind, very soon there will be no carriers for them stupidly. All Tu-22M3s will be decommissioned within 5-7 years, even those that have been modernized.
It will become impossible to operate them - the wings will fall off along the swivel joint. The same applies to the old ejection seats, which caused great criticism from the pilots and have long been discontinued.
The youngest MiG-31s arrived 30 years ago and a little earlier. The production of the engine has long been curtailed.
These machines will be able to serve no more than 10 more years.

Don't worry ... everything will be (!) ... if it works! There will also be "Sharpness" ...; and "Sharpness-M" will be renamed to "Ostrog"! wink

It's fun to read the script of the next spirit-lifting cartoon ...
The previous one, however, does not want to come true ?!
The dagger turned out to be a modified warhead of the land Iskander, and not a hypersonic missile. Zircons are still being tested. The first ship armed with them will be, according to the Ministry of Defense, the frigate Admiral Golovko "in a few years"! On the timing of the entry into service of the rest of the illustrated samples, the uncertainty is even greater!
While the United States in mid-2022, i.e. in a year, will begin to receive hypersonic air-to-ground missiles. F - 15EX fighters as their carriers are already arriving at aviation units!
Hypersonic separation risks being a bluff ...

Kirill Ryabov has pulled ahead of everyone on the path of generating various rumors and gossip, which are not based on anything.

Well, you, dear, apparently slept through everything, here is your path. For you, for sure, the Crimean Bridge is still a fantasy. Really funny, you'd better not be dishonored in public. And you are very far from Kirill Ryabov, so I advise you to listen to an intelligent person.
