Summer Tips: DIY Wood Crafts
Prefabricated wooden model of the Kon-Tiki raft from China. There is an analogue from Italy, and there is an Italian raft ... more than 12 thousand, but the Chinese analogue is no more than three, but there are also options within the "treshnitsa". However, the Italian raft is expensive due to the fact that the raft logs are made of balsa. And balsa is an expensive tree. But is material matching really so important for a tabletop model?

"Not every toy is a model, but any model can be a toy!"

"Maybe I drank something inappropriate and my ears are ringing?" - Giuseppe thought to himself ... No, today he did not drink anything inappropriate ... Calming down a bit, Giuseppe took the plane, hit the back with a hammer, so that the blade came out in moderation - not too much and not too little - put the log on the workbench and only led the shavings ... "
"The Golden Key, or the Adventures of Pinocchio" by A. N. Tolstoy

Creativity is around us. In our past material on creativity such as "make with children," we were talking about the widespread sets of various homemade products from China. And what they just do not have! But why are we worse? That is, it is worse, of course, that they gave them this niche, but then each of us may well make such “sets” for our children on our own.

Moreover, you can start making them for sale. And make business no worse than the Chinese! And to make the "fight with teachers in schools" a feature of advertising. Every year they demand homemade products from their children. September-October. From 1st grade to 5th ... And the parents are "perverted" if only "the teacher gets loose." So the name of the company can be just that: "Teacher, get out of the way." Of course, somewhat rude, cynical, I would even say, but no rougher than the name of the company "Anus", which sold radio electronics under a white flag with an eleven-pointed brown cross made of thin lines. From the book of Kurt Vonnegut they took it: "Breakfast for Champions, or Goodbye Black Monday" - that's what it is called. And here it can be abbreviated as "UO", which is also quite original and cool. However, it is not the name that matters, but what this company will be able to produce.

And if the Italians and the Chinese make the Kon-Tiki raft, why shouldn't the UO company produce other models of rafts on the same scale, but much cheaper ?! Moreover, the technology and design of the models allows it!

American raft "Nonparelle" ("Incomparable")

For example, the American raft "Nonparelle" ("Incomparable"). What kind of raft it is and what it is famous for is hardly worth writing here, since there was my article about it on VO. Detailed, with the same pattern. But there it was proposed to make his model from reed inflorescences. Paint them gray with gray nitro enamel with cement - it wonderfully imitates this rubber coating - and that's it, further along the drawing.

But if we make a series of models at the level of competition with Italy and China, then the floats will have to be carved out of wood! You can even make grooves on them for the ropes. All other components of the model are slats, coffee stirrers, harsh rope threads and fabric for sails and tents. Only it will need to be painted gray in advance. Canvas sails are just like that, not snow-white. It is very important to make a decal for the flag, but this can be ordered today. And remember that there were not so many stars on the US flag then as there are now!

Raft "Tahiti Nui-2"

"You need to get rich on rarities." And the raft "Tahiti-Nui-2" is still a rarity. But the main thing that he was good at and what he was good for us in this case is the material from which he was collected, and he was assembled from square beams! That is, I sawed all these beams in the form of large-scale slats, added skewers for kebabs, ice cream sticks for keels and fencing, made a blank for a hut from 0,5 mm plywood, attached sail patterns and ... that's it! Then let the modeler glue all this, cover it with stain and varnish. His business is how he will collect it. The main thing is to print a beautiful assembly instruction at the level of the most UO and offer it to children in schools. Including for circles. In the circles, after all, you also need to do something.

Now let's look at this photo. Well, just a very cheap Chinese homemade product, but of good quality. And the model turns out to be beautiful. And the child can do it!

A set of parts and instructions. As you can see, everything is corny and simple. But ... they do it, and we buy from them! This is the difference. And it could be the other way around!

This model is more complicated. At the first, your child will fill his hand - go to a more complex model

Here it is, this scow ...

But ... why not do exactly the same model, but ours, Russian. Moreover, with USP - a unique selling proposition.

The following diagram shows a model of a Black Sea scow. The one that “Kostya brought full of mullet to Odessa”. And Gavrik on it saved the fugitive sailor at Kataev's in "The sail is turning white ...". And here you have a sweep of all the details - take it and do it. This is not my model, I remember, I took it somewhere, but for the book I made it from beginning to end and provided a photo.

And in the end, in addition to homemade products for your child, you may have in your hands a ready-made set no worse than a Chinese one. For the UO company ... But it is important to be better than the Chinese and, in any case, more original. Well, to get this very USP, which they no longer have.

It is easy to achieve this: we will put in the set a disc with the recording of the film "The Lonely Sail Gleams White" or with an excerpt from the movie "Two Soldiers", where the inimitable Mark Bernes sings the song about Sailor Suit. A - propaganda of creativity, B - propaganda of our domestic, Russian, culture. What's bad? And nothing - only pluses.

Usually children are always too lazy to make a body. But what if you turn making it into an interesting game?

Before us is the boat of the ancient peoples. Something similar is described in the book by A. Linevsky "The Leaves of the Stone Book". The essence of the technology of its manufacture is that the wood of the hull was first burned out, and then the charred part was selected using a chisel or stone axes.

The easiest way to make such a boat is from an old (or new) rolling pin, since good wood goes on them. We cut it in half and get blanks for two bodies. It is clear that this can be done with blanks for the set. Not from rolling pins, of course. Rolling pins are expensive!

We burn wood with the most common electric burner! At the same time, we honestly warn consumers that the inhalation of smoke from burned wood by a child is harmful to health. Therefore, work on a homemade product must be carried out in the fresh air and ... with the fan on, blowing the smoke to the side. Warned? Okay! And then as they want.

This homemade deer skull is made of paper and wire. But in serial production, it can be cast from epoxy resin, and the branched horns from "white metal". Oars are sticks for barbecue, their blades are stirrer sticks for coffee.

Here it is - this book and an ancient boat on the cover ...

And we will put in the set ... a disc with the audiobook "The Leaves of the Stone Book". And ... let Russian children listen, and foreign children learn Russian from it! Double benefit! “Natural wood from ecologically clean regions of Russia. An exact copy of the ancient boat! "

"Geometric crater" depicting a ship from the Crete-Mycenaean era. Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York

The next model may well be a ship of the Cretan-Mycenaean era. There are images of such ships on vessels. And they can be used for packaging decoration. This is cool, and the reference to the Metropolitan always has a strong effect on weak minds.

A fairly thick pine bark can serve as the material for the body of this model, and it can be obtained at woodworking enterprises. Or all the same "rolling pin" from which the body blank is cut, which is then burned out from the inside with an electric burner. The new fairing and "tail" can be made of epoxy, because these parts are painted and from what they are still not visible. All other details, again, are from the simplest and most affordable materials. The main thing is to indicate how to process them and connect them together.

All details are painted with wood stain and colorless nitro lacquer. “Eyes” on the nose are decals that are easy to order today for the very corporate look of your set. And you are too lazy - or it will be expensive, then explain how it is best to paint with acrylic paints: two white circles with black stripes!

It has been said many times that “the new is the well-forgotten old,” and the truth does not fade from repetition. Such contour models of submarines were very popular in the 30-40s, then in the 50-60s. And why not add one such sub to your product line to provide a varied assortment?

Contour submarine

In this case, you can: A - laser cut the projection of the body with a cut under the rubber motor. It can be two or three boards. B - mill a hole for a rubber motor on one board and apply the contour of the boat to it and let them cut it out on their own. B - in the same way, cut out all the parts on the CNC so that the person who bought the kit would only have to connect it all and pull the rubber band over the screw shaft and the front hook. Although you can do without a front hook. The boat will only have to be painted.

Moreover, it will be interesting to make a submarine of the First World War, with deck torpedo tubes and paint it with camouflage using the Shpazhinsky or Ulkinson method. It will be interesting for children. The set can include any disc with a little-known Soviet film about submarines, for example, "Sea Hawk" (1941), or "The Fourth Periscope" (1939). Again, you can limit yourself to one song: "The Sea Hawk leaves the coast, and the girl waves her hand."

Well, modern technology also makes it possible to make a floating model of a nuclear submarine out of wood. There are two options for creating a branded model: the first is to make many round profiles to get a void inside, with pin fasteners along the parting line, and offer the person who bought such a set to grind off all the projections on their own, working with sandpaper along the body. The second - everything is the same, but the plates are cut on a CNC machine along. Here the body will need to be processed with sandpaper not along, but across.

For a homemade model, you can take boards and thicker, three pieces, cut out according to the drawing, and then grind off all the excess wood! The deck on this model is removable, with screws

Using the method of laser cutting of plywood parts, you can even prepare a set of parts for such a completely fantastic rover.

In addition to the radar bowl (and it is not required, by no means), all parts are formed by flat profiles. They are cut out of the frame and glued together. Massive track lugs are glued to double-sided adhesive tape or tarpaulin strips, put on the drive hexagons and secured with external anti-slip discs. They are best secured with screws so that if the track breaks, it can be easily removed for repair.

Likewise, all parts of the rover can be cut on a CNC machine from polystyrene 1,5 mm thick. Engines can be ordered at a discount from the manufacturer.

Well, the product line in this case can be called like this: "Unique all-terrain vehicles" or "Martian transport of the near future." The main thing here is to have a decent assortment, but today it is not at all difficult ... Yes, and there should be a lot of red on the packaging of models. Children love this!

German! It turns out the grandmother of a comrade during the war snatched them from a bombed train. I thought to heat them, but they smoked, but did not burn.
For us, these plugs have become soldiers, those with inscriptions - officers, and with the help of nails we have learned to make tanks, guns and cars out of them!

A good electrician will spread all the corrugation for an apartment on the floor and on the walls in a day and fill in and plaster when and as you want. He will then pull the wiring at any time of work. Not to mention that it is much safer in terms of circuits, and the closed wiring can be easily replaced without any walls or floor.

Even the shaving of the old plaster and the back-covering of the chases provoked checks on the "validity" of the materials and funds expended.
You gouge the old lime plaster with a hammer, beat it gently. And then the floor of the wall crumbles. But these floor walls need to be plastered over a new one. Excessive consumption of materials and distraction of plasterers from other places of work.

If it is entangled in kilometers, it means not one apartment and not for 2 rubles is done. So in proportion, the same pennies are obtained.
                        Here it is:

Or plaster the wall Before laying the wires !!!
                        Met such ...
At the same time, the plaster was of a particularly strong composition, and we only had hammers and chisels on our hands !!! ...

But two "electricians" physically cannot keep up with 10 plasterers. Or 8; 6; four.
                        Or am I wrong?
At the facility, the tiles on the floor were borrowed (for debts we were taken from the facility) and the power unit from the panel room to the shields went in pipes in the floor. On which the tiles were laid

                        costs many times more.
                        Quote: hohol95
You gouge the old lime plaster with a hammer, beat it gently. And then the floor of the wall crumbles. But these floor walls need to be plastered over a new one. Excessive consumption of materials and distraction of plasterers from other places of work

This happens when human labor is not appreciated and is too cheap. Where labor is paid normally, it would never occur to anyone to put people to hammer the walls with chisels, because they would go broke.
One person with such a machine will make more than 10 in a day with chisels and hammers. Quickly, qualitatively and incomparably cheaper.

Since what year did such mechanisms appear in large quantities?
But there were times when drills for hammer drills were brought from Germany. Not from China! And they cost more and were bought by the piece. Before the advent of consumables alaEnkor and Company.
And you think that municipal facilities were paid very well?
For libraries, dormitories, annexes to schools, alteration of old buildings for a school in a regional village, relocation of an old sanatorium to a polyclinic, a new building for a school for visually impaired children - is this not elite housing and cottages?
Nobody has canceled the tender yet. And everyone wants to save the budget of the city and region!
And the wiring in such objects is carried out under the ceiling (20cm from the ceiling), and not at the groin level.
And sockets with switches are placed at a level of 180 cm (kindergartens and schools).
And do not compare the new building with the construction of the Soviet era.

Let's finish this topic. I was a simple worker. And the price of the object, the prices for the work did not interest me - I received a salary normal for that time. Someone received more, someone less. But our work suited us. And the customer was therefore satisfied with our methods of work!
I don’t know how they work now on such major overhauls and restructuring of the old one for the new.
Again, everything depends on the size of the object, the uniformity of payment, the project itself (what the designer "thought up" - whether he forgot something important that will emerge in the process of repair or restructuring, and this has happened).
Here's an example from a slightly different sphere - the compensating elevator chain hits the shaft wall. This wall is adjacent to the kitchens or bedrooms of one of the apartments on 17 floors. There are complaints from residents about knocking on the wall.
The chain needs to be replaced with a rubber coated chain. But the Manager refuses to pay it back, and the office servicing the elevator (which installed it) also does not want to buy a new chain at its own expense.
The question is why they didn't think about it right away during installation - and with simple chains the elevator is not strong, but cheaper ... And people will get used to it!

Navfiga? This is taken from an article in the magazine Around the World for ... the pre-revolutionary year. It was written there. Then it was in my 1987 book. There it (Soviet times!) Was checked by the editors of the Polymya publishing house very carefully. They wrote to me: You were not mistaken - "the Empire of the Great Mughals? Maybe MONGOLOV? Where did you get this?" Gave a link to TSB. So if they have already missed, then everything is OK and check, only time to waste.

In fact, the text contains a scan of a completely Soviet period, possibly from a book from 1987. As for the thoroughness of the check, he himself wrote that the editors did not know the difference between the Mughals and the Mongols, that is, when they are qualified, the text requires verification. The qualifications of the pre-revolutionary editors were hardly better. Neat text speaks of respect for readers.

It seems that there is no such possibility, well, no, and there is no trial. You have a holy confidence in the truth of the written printed word, and sometimes it is worth checking it out. Do it yourself!...
The purpose of the search, as well as what to throw in order to make the craft, is individually, whoever succeeds. But a small nuance: if you don't throw something, but whom, which is now permissible and even welcome, then you yourself know what the result will be. And if you strictly follow the instructions, without deviating one iota, then - just a small, cute boat on the table and accompanying dreams of high and distant, often unrealizable.
