American "Sword of Armageddon" prepares for trials

38

In place of the LGM-70G Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missiles operating since the 30s, the US Army will receive other ones - Ground Based Strategic Deterrent (GBSD). American "Sword of Armageddon", as they call this promising weapon in the United States itself, is already preparing for testing.

Kyle Mizokami writes about this in his article published in Popular Mechanics magazine.

The new missile will become the ground component of the American nuclear triad. A huge amount will be spent on the implementation of this program - about $ 61 billion in the next decade. Only the choice of the optimal configuration of ICBMs spent six billion dollars.

Due to such a high cost, the project is criticized by its opponents. As an alternative, they propose not to create fundamentally new weapons, but to modernize existing ones.

The GBSD is developed by Northrop Grumman. When creating it, digital technologies are actively used. It is assumed that this weapon is capable of delivering a nuclear charge anywhere in the world in a few minutes.

In total, 400 of these missiles should enter service with the US Air Force. Each of them will be capable of carrying a thermonuclear charge with a capacity of 335-350 kilotons of TNT.

For several minutes this is in the region of 20 - 30 minutes at an ICBM speed of 28000 kilometers per hour - the laws of physics are not violated.

Usually "several" is no more than 10. But in <10 minutes if you place it on a submarine, but we are talking here about ground-based.

An ICBM has a flight time of 20 to 30 minutes, just as journalists, as always, wrote in their own way that they say in a few minutes.

    This is pretty unrealistic.
If we assume that this is the most distant point - say, at a distance of 20 kilometers and 000 minutes (the maximum value for several minutes), the rocket will have to fly at a speed of more than 9 km / h. Is unrealistic

The main thing is to scare the people, and you don't have to make a rocket at all, but you need to "master" the money.

Serious journalist in the USA: both the USA with RUNES on equipment, and the sword of Armageddon with a warp engine. They mixed everything into one Hungarian paprikash. Rune is the oldest and comes from the Lower Danube, part of the culture and heritage of the ancestors of the Slavs. Armageddon has no connection with the sword of the thread sword with Armageddon and it is from the Bible with BV. a Warp engine from Hollywood. So the journalist has the upper hand. If this was invented by someone in the US, then the US military has a serious problem with education.

So this group, mainly engaged in shipbuilding, has a distant relationship to digital technologies for space and rockets. It could have been written that Pepsi-Kolla undertook to develop missiles, but why, drank the dough, the Americans are stupid, etc.

    The situation is quite interesting.
In the United States, it is the modernization of weapons that is increasingly being considered.
No matter how tight the American money is, but the motives for saving money spent on armaments are more and more often present in the American rhetoric.
Apparently not such a powerful economy in the states at the moment.
So they have to be pragmatists.
Another thing is that the military-industrial complex will go out of its way to prove the urgent need for a new complex.
Hunt to earn extra money ...

Um ... I have a more general idea: the current business model of the American economy is more interested in the process (read the cut) than the result recourse
Megaprojects for astronomical sums, and with an unclear deadline for implementation, this, as it were, confirms.
      IMHO, of course hi
