The Russian government approved the draft agreement on the creation of an MTO point in Sudan

The Cabinet of Ministers approved a draft agreement on the creation of a logistics center for the Russian Navy in Sudan. The corresponding document was signed by Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, it is posted on the portal of legal information.
Now the document approved by the Cabinet will be presented to President Vladimir Putin, who will submit it to the State Duma. Further, after approval by the deputies, it will go back for signature to the head of state and come into force.
Information about the agreement to create a Russian Navy station in Sudan appeared in November 2020, at the same time the Russian government approved the creation of an MTO station. The draft of a new MTO item was developed by the Ministry of Defense, agreed with the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Supreme Court, the Prosecutor General and the Investigative Committee. Also, the plan has been preliminary worked out with the Sudanese side.
By prior agreement, the number of the Russian contingent in the new MTO point will not exceed 300 people, and the number of ships simultaneously located at the point should not exceed four.
In April of this year, some media outlets, including foreign ones, reported that Sudan had suspended the agreement on the creation of an ITO clause, but the Sudanese Foreign Ministry and the Russian embassy denied these allegations.
