Iran reported on prevention of sabotage at nuclear facility
News The website of the Islamic Republic of Iran, with reference to the country's security services, reported on the prevention of a sabotage attack against one of the facilities of the Iranian nuclear industry. On social networks, they write about this that an unidentified unmanned aerial vehicle tried to attack the building, but the attack failed, no human casualties or material damage followed.
Currently, the Iranian special services are engaged in clarifying all the details of the incident and establishing the identity of the people who could have been involved in organizing this attack. No details about the progress of the investigation, as well as about the incident itself and how to prevent it, have not yet been contained in the world and Iranian press.
Iran has previously accused Israel of attacks on facilities related to the implementation of the country's nuclear program, as well as the killing of Iranian nuclear scientists throughout the country. But the Israeli authorities did not confirm or deny these statements of the Iranian leadership.
Meanwhile, the ISNA news agency reported that the attacked object could be located near the city of Karaj, which is 40 km from Tehran. The Iranian Atomic Energy Organization previously talked about a research center in the city of Karaj, which was founded in 1974 and deals exclusively with issues of "improving the quality of soil, water, agricultural and livestock production using nuclear technology."
In April 2021, a mysterious power outage occurred at Iran's underground nuclear facility at Natanz. Several components of the facility's equipment were damaged as a result of this accident. Tehran called the power outage an act of "nuclear terrorism", stressing that such actions only exacerbate regional tensions. In 2020, an explosion occurred at the enterprise, and another Iranian scientist who was engaged in research in the field of nuclear physics was killed in November 2020.
The sabotage against Iran's nuclear facilities is taking place against the backdrop of negotiations on the renewal of the West's nuclear deal with Tehran. Its conclusion may not be in the interests of Israel, which fears the normalization of US relations with Iran and, as a consequence, the weakening of the American military presence in the countries of the Arab East. After all, it is known that now the American leadership is planning to withdraw part of the American troops not only from Iraq and Syria, but also from Kuwait, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, which may change the balance of regional forces not in Israel's favor.
In 2018, US President Donald Trump unilaterally pulled the country out of a nuclear deal with Iran, after which tensions in the Middle East increased significantly. The incident at the Iranian plant occurred on Wednesday, just against the backdrop of attempts by Iran and Western countries to return to an agreement on a nuclear program.
US President Joe Biden is in favor of re-joining the nuclear deal, which is very reluctant in Israel. To thwart the deal, its opponents can use a variety of levers, including both lobby pressure in the US Congress and similar actions against Iranian targets. In the latter case, the emphasis is on the fact that Iran itself will refuse to negotiate.
