American media: Four Saudis who killed journalist Khashoggi studied military affairs in the United States
The four Saudis who killed journalist Jamal Khashoggi at the Saudi Arabian consulate in Istanbul had previously trained in military affairs at Tier 1, a subsidiary of Cerberus Capital Management (USA). The contract for the training of fighters of the Royal Guard of the KSA was approved by the US State Department.
This was reported by The New York Times, citing information from a representative of Cerberus Capital Management.
Training program for four Saudi Arabians who have committed the murder of a journalist, according to
a private military company engaged in military training was purely defensive in nature. It included training in safety during shooting, repelling attacks, methods of tracking objects, actions in close combat.
American media outlets note that the US officials who allowed the training might not have been aware that these Saudi nationals were involved in the repression. At the same time, it was already known that Riyadh used the royal guards to suppress dissent in the country.
The US authorities gave the go-ahead for military training of the KSA Royal Guards in 2014. A representative of the training company said that the training of its specialists for Saudi Arabians had nothing to do with the atrocities they committed later.
In the United States and Europe itself, human rights activists note that Washington has not imposed sanctions against Riyadh, although it imposes sanctions against a number of other countries for lesser sins. This, as noted by human rights defenders, looks like a clear double standard in relation to the protection of human rights, including the basic right to life.
