Large-scale military exercises of the interspecific grouping of the Air Defense Forces and the Pacific Fleet started in the Far East
Russia has begun large-scale military exercises in the Far East. According to the headquarters of the Eastern Military District, the exercises will be held in the waters of the Sea of Japan, Sakhalin and the Kuril Islands.
The exercise started on Wednesday morning and will last five days. The islands of Sakhalin, Iturup and Kunashir, as well as the waters of the Sea of Japan were chosen as the venue for the bilateral exercise. They involve formations and units of the army corps of the Air Defense Forces and the forces of the Pacific fleet... The leadership of the exercises is carried out by acting Commander of the Air Defense Forces, Lieutenant General Sergei Sevryukov.
In total, more than 10 thousand servicemen were involved in the exercises, up to 500 units of military equipment, including 32 aircraft and helicopters, as well as 12 ships and vessels of the Pacific Fleet. During the two stages of the exercise, scenarios for the use of an interspecific grouping to protect the eastern borders of Russia will be played out. The units and formations involved in the exercises will work out the landing of sea and tactical assault forces.
The exercises conducted by the Russian Ministry of Defense in the Far East are strongly disliked by Japan, which considers the Kuril Islands to be its "Northern Territories." It is safe to say that the Russian Foreign Ministry will soon receive another note of protest.
Note that the Ministry of Defense is conducting a series of large-scale exercises in June. So, on June 8, exercises to protect the Arctic began in the Northern Fleet, they took place in the Barents Sea with the involvement of surface and submarine forces, as well as aviation... On June 10, large-scale exercises of the Pacific Fleet began in the central part of the Pacific Ocean. More than 20 surface ships and vessels of the Pacific Fleet, as well as submarines, were involved in them.
