Scientists find out the cause of the headache in American astronauts on the ISS
US space crews on the International Space Station complained of headaches. Scientists from the United States are investigating why American astronauts on the ISS have headaches.
He writes about it RIA News, referring to the data of the report of specialists of the Russian rocket and space center "Energia".
In the United States, it is believed that the fault is the increased content of carbon dioxide at the station. Russian experts disagree with these conclusions, suggesting that the reason lies in weightlessness or something else.
It was necessary to reduce the level of carbon dioxide at the NASA station in 2008, when astronauts from the United States began to complain of headaches, although the content was within the established norm - 5-6 mm Hg. At the same time, the headaches of the crews were associated with the content of CO2 without medical examination of the victims.
Russia went to meet the Americans and reduced the maximum concentration of carbon dioxide to 3 mm, but complaints still continue.
True, there are not too many of them. For the period from 2001 to 2012, 46 such cases were registered, and in 1670 cases no one complained of headaches. Analysis of this information showed that American crew members had headaches either when working in tight spaces with little air, or when everyone was gathering in the same room.
Experts from the Russian Federation also suggested that headaches may occur due to the influence of weightlessness, as blood rushes to the head. It is also possible that while sleeping, one of the astronauts inhaled carbon dioxide, which they also exhaled when they exhaled.
In addition, the Russian side claims that in its segments of the ISS, where the average concentration of CO2 was at the level of 6 mm Hg, headaches were not observed in either Russians or foreigners.
