In Mali, there was an attack on the French military who participated in the anti-terrorist operation "Barkhan". Some of them were injured.
This was reported by the France 24 TV channel, citing local sources of information.
Soldiers were injured in a car bomb explosion in the Kaiguru area of the city of Gossi in the central part of the country. To evacuate the wounded, the command sent helicopters from the village of Gao.
It was a mined vehicle, which is rare in the region, and was targeted at the Barkhan patrol.
- said Vasim Nasr, a terrorism expert working for the channel.
He also added that the wreckage of the car was scattered about three kilometers from the scene of the attack. This indicates a large amount of explosives planted. At almost the same time, a firefight broke out between the jihadists and the French military, and at a considerable distance from the blown up car, outside the city, near its northern outskirts.
It is noteworthy that the attack took place shortly after French President Emmanuel Macron announced the curtailment of military operations in the African region of the Sahel, which covers Mali, Burkina Faso, Chad, Mauritania and Niger. Mali is considered one of the hottest spots in Africa because of the Islamist groups operating here, and the French contingent has been present there for several years.
