US to equip F-15 fighters with iSNS anti-jamming system from Israeli Elbit
According to Boeing, the choice in favor of Elbit Systems was made after a thorough analysis of the characteristics of the system, as well as the possibilities of the integration itself. This was told by the director of the corporation for international programs F-15 Lauren Grumlich.
Elbit's iSNS anti-jamming system meets stringent operational requirements and demonstrates Boeing's commitment to partnering with the Israeli industry to expand and improve the capabilities of the F-15 fighters, a company spokesman said.
iSNS (Satellite Navigation System) was developed and manufactured by the Israeli company Elbit Systems. This system is an ECCM GPS electronic countermeasures tool. In a press release, the company emphasizes that the system can provide protection against interference from multiple satellite channels, as well as eliminate interfering signals on coincident frequencies.
The modular system has been designed specifically for use in a wide range of naval, air and ground weapons, including armored vehicles, artillery systems, unmanned aerial vehicles, fighters, surface ships and submarines. A big plus of the system is the ability to work continuously near enemy jammers.
Edgar Maimon, Vice President and CEO of Elbit Systems ISTAR and EW, said he was very proud of the choice of an Israeli-made system by such a corporation as Boeing, especially since the system will be used on F-15 fighters. He also expressed hope for further cooperation with the American giant aviation industry.
Currently, the Boeing F-15 program plays a very important role in ensuring air superiority for the US Air Force, Israel and a number of other countries. Over the course of a decade, the program's capabilities have grown significantly. Since most of the Israeli F-15 fighters were purchased in the second half of the 1970s, there is a definite need for their improvement, as well as for the production of new aircraft for the Israeli military aviation. This includes, among other things, a new modification of the F-15IA.
In July 2020, the US Air Force signed a contract with Boeing for the production of up to 200 new F-15 aircraft, designated the F-15EX. The first new F-15EX was officially unveiled to the United States Air Force on April 7, 2021. The F-15X is expected to be produced in two versions: the single-seat F-15CX and the two-seat F-15EX. It will be able to carry on board heavier air-to-air weapons.
In addition to the anti-jamming system, other Elbit Systems technology solutions are used on the F-15 and F-15EX fighters, including a warning system, low-profile displays.
For seventy years, Boeing has partnered with many Israeli aerospace and high-tech companies. In turn, this cooperation gives Israel the opportunity to use the quality aircraft of the American aircraft manufacturing giant for the needs of its defense and security.
