Spanish Foreign Ministry: NATO should cooperate with Moscow and Beijing
31
The North Atlantic Alliance (NATO) must work with Moscow and Beijing while maintaining a tough approach to them. Russia and China should not be viewed only as rivals.
This statement was made by Spanish Foreign Minister Arancha Gonzalez Laya in an interview with the Spanish newspaper La Vanguardia.
The question is not to define China and Russia as our new rivals, but to see what our relationship with them will be, based on the risks.
- she thinks.
She argues that NATO countries should take into account both long-known risks and those that have arisen relatively recently. They were also announced at the recent summit of the alliance. In particular, climate change on our planet, which greatly threatens global security, should be taken very seriously. Nor should we underestimate the threats of cyberattacks, disinformation, and more.
The minister considers the Indo-Pacific region to be the most critical zones, and the exacerbation of the US-Chinese rivalry is also indicated.
And, even as a NATO member, Spain must cooperate with China and Russia.
Laya also noted that Madrid should not forget about Latin America, where the influence of Beijing and Moscow is becoming more noticeable against the background of the decline in the influence of Madrid itself.
