The USA conducted shock tests of an aircraft carrier for the first time since 1987

60

In the USA, the next tests of the aircraft carrier Gerald Ford (CVN-78) were carried out. This is the first aircraft carrier of a new class in the US Navy.

The Pentagon reports that the next tests were related to checking the stability of the ship in the event of strong sea waves as a result of probable hostilities. For this, an explosion was carried out near the aircraft carrier.

From the report:

The explosive device was fired to simulate aspects of real-world combat conditions. We tested how effectively a warship can withstand such a blow.

It is noted that such tests have confirmed the high impact strength of the aircraft carrier USS Gerald R. Ford.

The epicenter of the explosion was about 350 meters from the American aircraft carrier.

In the official account of the battleship on social networks, a statement appeared on behalf of the commander of the aircraft carrier. The statement states that the ship is “capable of continuing its mission at the forefront using combat aviation».

At the same time, the published photos show that at the time of the tests, there was no aircraft on the deck of "Gerald Ford".

The US Navy notes that shock tests with an aircraft carrier were carried out for the first time since 1987. During the tests, special sensors made it possible to determine the degree of vibration from the explosion. It was noted that the degree of vibration on the battleship Gerald Ford is "acceptable." The power of the explosion is not reported, although, judging by the photo, it was considerable.

Yes, there was a desire to emphasize this point ... it makes no sense, conservationists will not run over the minke whales, and you cannot help the fish / octopuses. Although, after all, they could have done this in the place of great depths, far from the coast, this is logical ... there are not so many living creatures there.

This is normal. There are strength tests when it DOES NOT FLY!
There is a check \ test \ training, when it flew! But then, everything is limited, carefully, the risk is too great, the consequences are not predictable.

And why didn't the top agree? Our flyers, I think, would gladly undertake to test both our missiles and their aircraft carrier for impact resistance.

On 21 mats in 1984, the Soviet nuclear submarine, when ascending with the propeller, made a hole in the aircraft carrier about 4m2 below the waterline.
And nothing, calmly came under its own power.

Military sources report damage sustained by a US aircraft carrier during a test explosion.

A test explosion near the USS Gerald R. Ford, as part of a stress test, could have damaged the aircraft carrier. Such information appeared in foreign and Russian media. According to the data presented, the aircraft carrier could have received some damage as a result of a water hammer, since the explosion turned out to be so powerful that, in fact, comparable to the size of the aircraft carrier itself.

We need tests that would result in the sinking of a US aircraft carrier, or at least incapacitating it indefinitely.
So far, from this test, it can be concluded that a direct hit to the deck or power plant is necessary to disable such a ship.

The weak point of an aircraft carrier is its air wing! It is enough to light the aircraft on the deck and there will be no one to take off. And there is also a storage facility for fuel and ammunition.

For this they have an emergency team. Judging by the footage, the chronicles of the 2nd MV and the times of the "cold" (crash during landing ...) act quickly.
About the tests. Perhaps you can test the stability by an explosion at a distance of almost 2 cables, but something suggests that the result will not be entirely correct and not comparable to a real strong storm.

The fire at the Forrestal strike aircraft carrier in the Gulf of Tonkin in the 1967 year is considered the largest disaster. This is the largest tragedy in the modern history of the US Navy. 134 people died in the fire, another 161 sailor was injured and burned.

The fire would have been caused by the spontaneous launch of the 27-mm Zuni unguided rocket, which fell off the Skyhaw attack aircraft pylon and crashed into fully loaded and equipped for take-off aircraft. 17-hour fire swept six decks of the ship, nine bombs detonated on the flight deck. The ship and its air wing completely lost their combat effectiveness, the 21 burned plane was thrown overboard.

During World War II, if the Americans put a bomb 350 meters away from a Japanese aircraft carrier, the Japanese did not even notice it and continued to carry out the task. The aircraft carrier remained afloat. It means that our missilemen need to get into the avik, so that with a guarantee. The Chinese boast that they have such.

Hefty? Cruise liners with a displacement of 1.5 times more go across the Baltic. And "container carriers" are 4 times heavier. I'm not even talking about supertankers (there are more than 550000 tons, it will not climb into the Channel), so the military is still quite modest people.

350 m? And a single explosion? This is nonsense, not shock testing. In an amicable way, it should be as close as possible to the combat ones: the aircraft carrier itself is fully loaded, with full ammunition and fuel cellars. And direct missile hits, with a real warhead.
