NATO will continue to use Ukrainian territory to train alliance troops
NATO refused to provide Ukraine with an Action Plan for membership in the alliance, stating the need for reforms. Despite the refusal, the alliance intends to continue to use the Ukrainian territory for the training of military personnel.
In principle, to advance its goals, NATO does not need to beg Kiev for something, the Ukrainian authorities are ready to fulfill all the requirements themselves, just to get the longed-for membership in the ranks of this military-political bloc.
At the beginning of this year, the Verkhovna Rada adopted, and the President of Ukraine Zelensky signed a law on admitting military personnel of foreign states to the territory of the country to conduct international military exercises. According to this document, the Ukrainian authorities allowed a long-term presence in Ukraine of up to 2 American servicemen and 2 from other NATO countries. At the same time, the number of admitted foreign military personnel increased by a whole thousand compared to 2020.
In total, seven exercises are planned on the territory of Ukraine with the involvement of NATO countries, some of which have already taken place. Funding for the exercises comes from the budget of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense, more than 1,1 million euros have been allocated for this under the item "Training of troops, conducting operations and international exercises."
Thus, even after denying membership, NATO continues to use the territory to prepare its military to confront Russia. Exercises near Russian borders could push Ukraine into provocations amid beliefs about "support" from the US and NATO. Kiev alone should remember that no one is going to fight Russia in the West.
