US Press: US National Security Council suspends military aid to Ukraine
The American publication Politico, citing several sources in various US departments at once, writes that Washington decided to suspend the allocation of military aid to Ukraine in the amount of $ 100 million. Such military assistance as part of the next package was to be sent to Ukraine within the framework of decisions previously made in the States.
The article informs that the US is now discussing the issue of whether it is generally advisable to provide this package of military assistance to Kiev. Thus, it is indicated that the decision was made "against the background of the strengthening of the military component of Russia at the Ukrainian borders and on the territory of Crimea." Now in the American National Security Council the action of the decisions taken earlier by the Pentagon and the State Department of decisions was suspended "for the analysis of the situation."
Additionally, the US press notes that such measures were taken against the background of the Geneva summit, where Vladimir Putin and Joe Biden met.
The military aid package for Ukraine included anti-tank and small arms weapon, as well as short-range air defense systems.
Reporters asked the White House to comment on the situation. They said that "in any case, they will continue to support Ukrainian sovereignty, as Joe Biden said during his talks with Vladimir Putin."
The Politico material was violently reacted in Ukraine. It is noted that if there is a delay in military assistance, it will be against the background of NATO's refusal to provide Ukraine with the MAP (membership action plan) "once again says that the United States has reduced its level of support."
