British press: life on Earth no longer depends on Russian-American summits
According to the author of the publication, Martin Kettle, the summit of the presidents of the United States and Russia Joe Biden and Vladimir Putin, for all its importance, no longer possesses the epoch-making that was inherent in the meetings of Soviet and American leaders in the twentieth century. Life on Earth no longer depends on the summits of the heads of Russia and the United States, says Martin Kettle.
If we analyze the results of the summit, we can see that Russia and the United States have weakened significantly, the author of The Guardian believes. The reason for this lies both in the growth of activity and influence of China, and in the emergence of new factors, among which is the cessation of economic growth in Europe and the growth of the potential of Asian countries.
The publication noted the shifting of Western attention to China, which is explained by the economic opportunities of this country, its growing political ambition. Today, China, and not Russia, is viewed by the West as the most dangerous potential adversary. As for the relationship between the United States and Russia, the author of The Guardian described them as "a state of minor conflict." The summit, according to the observer, was a definite step towards a certain reset of these relations.
At the same time, one cannot count on any global changes following the summit. It can only launch some gradual and slow processes of detente in relations between the two states, which, of course, will have a definite impact on world politics as a whole. But this influence will no longer be as decisive as before.
