The Ministry of Defense is developing a smartphone for Russian military personnel

Once again, the topic is raised concerning whether or not the use of modern smartphones by military personnel is permissible, and if so, where exactly. At different periods of time, the attitude of the Ministry of Defense to this issue was different. Now it is stated that the department is developing mobile phones for military personnel on the basis of the Era technopolis.

During the international exhibition Svyaz-2021, Deputy Head of the Information Systems Department of the RF Ministry of Defense, Alexander Osadchuk, announced that in addition to smartphones for military personnel on the basis of Era, special mobile applications are being developed that could be used on the territory of the military unit of the RF Armed Forces ...

According to TASS, a promising smartphone will feature a high degree of protection. Its creation is carried out using the Aurora platform.

It should be noted that the MIG C55 smartphone was previously created on the basis of this platform. This is a secure version of a mobile phone that is used to automate the work of mobile personnel. The smartphone has an 8-core Qualcomm MSM8940 processor, the frequency is 1,4 GHz. Weight - 228 g, thickness - 1,3 cm. RAM - 3 GB, internal memory - 32 GB, microSD support, photo / video equipment - front camera (front) - 5 MP, rear -16 MP. Navigation is used in several systems - GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou, Galileo. A removable 4000 mAh battery is used.

It can be operated at temperatures ranging from -20 to +60 degrees Celsius. Judging by the "temperature" characteristic, such a model is unlikely to be suitable for use in the Arctic, where Russia is restoring a full-fledged military presence.

It will come in handy in hand-to-hand combat smile as a heavy blunt object.
And this, of course, I'm not an expert, but here's a Qualcomm processor ...
then exits to jeepies, galileo and other baida ...
is it an indicator of superprotection?

Hopefully not based on android! Otherwise, you can forget about secrecy, it's like transmitting data directly to the CIA.

Everything related to the Internet and communications is transmitted to the NSA and the US CIA ... Snowden and Assange have long revealed how this is done.
And secrecy will be respected if all the technical stuffing and software is under our complete control ... which is now unrealistic.

Well, go and even from the Soviet times there were their cleaned communication channels.

The capacity of those channels is not designed for current flows. It's like using brigantines instead of a modern container ship. Well, like, it's cheaper and there are no enemy diesels

The Android system is open, especially since if you have your own platform, you will have to tune it a little, the smartphone itself can be bladeless, then the question is about the cellular equipment through which communication is carried out.

Why do they need a smartphone in the Arctic? There are probably normal telephones between buildings and structures. For the "street" - radio stations.

When I was a soldier of the USSR, there was an anecdote:
For officers released Rubik's cubes. For the average composition - monolithic, for the highest - monolithic!
The ban on the use of telephones in the army, it seems, began after the photos were leaked from the places of hostilities and deployment. Cameras are provided here ...
I suggest! Smartphone with two buttons! One - a call to the commander, the second - to the subordinate!

Whatever the characteristic, then the ultimate dream ... if this phone was offered ten years ago. Well, now, I think, the military will put aside this miracle of technology, at the first opportunity to use a full-fledged gadget.

I don’t understand at all, why create service communications on clones of widespread operating systems? Why would a railway worker, an emchee or a soldier need to access the Internet from an official communication device?
For the Internet, let it be anything. For intercom, only proprietary systems that are not compatible with anything other than themselves.
I believe that all this is from laziness and greed in the development of their own info-platforms for internal use. For ten years, everyone has been saying that they will transfer all Russian banks to their own OS and application software. Loot is sawing, but things are still there ...

    ..
Maybe I really don't understand something?

Firstly, it's just scary to imagine what the price tag will be for this phone, and regardless of the degree of squalor of the technical characteristics. At the same time, it will be much more buggy than any Xiaomi with Huiwei there.
Secondly, our sworn partners can always prohibit us from supplying components, which will be all, without exception (except for the cases - they can be produced at our woodworking enterprises) imported. And money for R&D will go down the drain. Well, so what? Everyone who needs it will have already received the gesheft by that time.

The main thing is that the quality is not like that of Rostec. Here is another masterpiece from Svyaz21. For this, you need to edit your hands with a soldering iron. I wonder if you warm it up a little, knock on the board, will it immediately burn out or suffer a little and then burn out?

It seems that two chips were soldered at a factory (possibly a Chinese one), and the rest was done in the garage of Rafshan and Co.

Yes, it is enough to remember about the military "domestic" laptop from brothers from Taiwan - articles "Are spy laptops supplied to Russia?", about the protected Getac A790 laptop from the Taiwan company Getac Technology and "BIOS Trojanot from Absolute Software."
The "domestic" laptop pounded on a server in Canada, while the Trojan provided remote control.

I remember the stories about the development by the nanoindustry of the Russian Federation from Chubais several years ago of tablets for schoolchildren. And where are those tablets? Where are the billions that were allocated for that? Where is Chubais with those promises. So here too - the cut will be grandiose, and then it turns out that the assembly and components are Chinese, only the OS is pseudo Russian.

Did anyone think that a phone needs some kind of infrastructure to work? Or will we use native operators whose networks are built exclusively on bourgeois equipment?
In general, the topic "a mobile phone has been developed for the military" for 15 years already. What has not happened, but it all ends with purchased primitive mobile phones from the list of approved ones. I didn’t do it ..
