"To Confront China": US May Deploy New Permanent Naval Group in Pacific
The United States may deploy a new permanent naval force in the Pacific to counter China. According to Politico, citing knowledgeable sources, such a possibility is not ruled out.
According to the publication, the Pentagon is considering the option of deploying a permanent US Navy group in the Pacific region. The new plan envisages not only confronting China, although this will be the main purpose of the group, but also conducting military operations, which will allow the US Department of Defense to attract additional funds.
It is assumed that the new Pacific group will be created in the image and likeness of NATO's permanent naval forces in the Atlantic. However, at the moment it is not known whether only American ships will be included in it or NATO allies will be involved. Most likely the second option, since China, along with Russia, became the main enemy of the collective West, and NATO ships began to appear more and more often in the area.
The option of creating a permanent group was proposed by an analytical group specially created at the Pentagon, which, on behalf of Biden, developed ways to confront China, which is increasing its influence in the Asia-Pacific region. The recommendations were passed on to US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin.
While the Pentagon is only considering the option of creating a permanent naval group to confront China, the final decision has not been made.
