From assault rifles to mortars: the U.S. military has stolen and lost over 10 weapons in 2000 years

17

A report has been published in the United States that concerns the loss weapons from the territory of military bases (including arsenals) and not only for 10 years. The report covers the time period from 2010 to 2019.

As it turns out, during this time in the United States, over 2 thousand different weapons have disappeared from military arsenals, bases and other objects. The report stated that some of the weapons that were stolen from military installations of the US armed forces ended up in the hands of criminals. At the same time, in a number of cases, criminal liability for persons who should be involved in the control of weapons on the territory of military bases did not come.

From the report:

After the abduction, the weapon was often used in the commission of crimes. Several small arms were subsequently found abandoned in woodlands and city parks.

It should be noted that the Associated Press conducted its own investigation of this problem. In its course, it was found that weapons were stolen not only from military warehouses, but even from ships.

From the report:

The weapon was taken out after breaking into the rooms for its storage, using, among other things, by those who were sleeping. There have been failures in monitoring systems of important objects. 1504 weapons were stolen from the US Army, 211 from the US Navy, 204 from the Marine Corps.

It is indicated that 39 pieces of stolen small arms are classified as “other”. It is assumed that these could be the Coast Guard units or the Pentagon security service.

The American press notes that the US Air Force "turned out to be the least willing to cooperate on the issue of weapons loss." This may indicate that the above list of stolen weapons is not complete and conclusive.

What weapon is lost?

In the prepared report, it is said that most often these were assault rifles. Pistols (694), shotguns (11) and even machine guns (74 units) were also stolen. But that's not all. It was possible to establish that about a hundred grenade launchers, mortars and anti-tank guided missiles were stolen from the warehouses.

Additionally, it is pointed out that there were several cases when servicemen stated that they “lost their weapons in the course of operations”.

There is an interesting remark in the material:

39 weapons are designated by the Pentagon as "other". And there is no clarity as to what kind of weapon it is. It turns out that it could be anything: from an army knife to a nuclear warhead.

It turns out that it could be anything: from an army knife to a nuclear warhead.

Business then, for the first time that the Americans lost nuclear weapons, presumably, during the Cold War, about 50 nuclear warheads were lost, after that talking about some kind of mortars and assault rifles, in fact, is not comme il faut

2000 units in 10 years is not that much. Of course, and not a little, but remember in the Russian Federation Chechen companies there weapons were lost not only in hostilities.
There was a case ... I had an acquaintance, he was from a business trip, not like a pistol or a grenade, but he brought three shells from MLRS. I don't know how and where he got them there, but in the city of the Russian Federation upon arrival I did not know where to attach them, ended up putting them in a departmental garage with all kinds of junk and there probably it would still be lying ... But years later On 5-7, an "unexpected" ministerial check came (everyone knew that the regional general was being cut down and no one had any illusions that the inspectors would release some trifles on the brakes) and here it is! In principle, a matter of jurisdiction, and, as it were, a common grave of all the leaders. Without hesitation, this idiot put two shells in the armory, and the third did not fit in there in size and he put it under the desk of the operational duty officer. The latter, having discovered a shell under his ass, called this acquaintance, broke into him and he removed it all into the courtyard of our unit (I do not specifically indicate which one and where, but a courtyard with a residential high-rise building). After anonymously he called and reported the discovery of ammunition, it was better to choose that time, in the region there was a ministerial check, the whole country is fighting terrorism, etc., and he was with three shells. Explosives technicians arrived of course and took the "find". fool

Somehow, in Malaya Blizzard, 15 years ago, they found a stack of shells for the Grad, it turned out to be from a nearby landfill where they were disposed of, just a cunning ensign or whoever I don't remember has already decided to enclose a fence in the country, not to buy pipes if there is no one there. the necessary one is lying around in tons ...
PS: okay, at least the training ones turned out to be ...

And in Izhevsk it was even more abrupt, in 2012 "Izhmash" took out any rubbish to the dump (old boxes and other crap), well, a local resident agreed with the driver that they would go to waste for firewood, but the "good" turned out to be very credible: 79 Kalashnikov assault rifles, as it turned out later, arrived for disposal at the plant, 253 stores for them and other trifles (oil cans, lids, linings, etc.) ...

in the Russian Federation, weapons were lost ... but remember that during that time, the 90s devastation, the Chechen war, was happening with the economy and the army, people survived, stole.
and in the USA, I don't remember that there was a war on their territory or such a decade of devastation, like the main economy of the world, well-fed gentlemen.
so it is not necessary to put slightly different things in the same row.

In the United States, the population has more than 400 million units of various legal firearms. And these are not only Smithwessons, but also quite heavy things like machine guns, flamethrowers, grenade launchers. The 2000 units mentioned are really a drop in the ocean.

over 2 thousand different weapons were missing
Considering the American entrepreneurial spirit, 10 years is not enough. They could have stolen more. And how many were thrown from planes by mistake not to those who were intended, but how much transferred to Ukraine was sold on the left, but how much ... etc.?
