"Will be able to replace Soviet cars": BTR-V2 has been developed in Belarus

The Belarusian enterprise MZKT intends to present its latest development - the BTR-V2 armored personnel carrier. Its demonstration is expected at the MILEX-2021 forum, which is due to start on June 23.

BTR-V2 in the future will be able to replace such Soviet combat vehicles as BMD-1, BMP-1, BMP-2, BTR-70 and BTR-80, which are in service with the Armed Forces of the Republic of Belarus

- declared in the Military-Industrial Committee of the country.

The new armored personnel carrier with a wheel arrangement of 8 × 8 is also designated as MZKT-690003. Its gross weight is 19,9 tons. Chinese engine WP13.480A0 with a capacity of 480 hp. and a hydromechanical six-speed gearbox of local development make it possible to develop a speed of up to 110 km / h and up to 10 km / h when crossing water obstacles afloat.

The armored hull is all-welded. The level of protection is not named. The suspended floor and seats that accommodate personnel inside the vehicle absorb the shockwave. To monitor targets, TNPA-170A devices are installed. Armament is represented by a 30-mm 2A42 cannon with stabilization in two planes, a 7,62-mm PKT machine gun, as well as an ATGM.

The number of the crew is 3 people, the landing force - 8 fighters. There is a hinged lip at the rear of the car for their exit.

It is assumed that on the basis of the BTR-V2, heavier equipment will be created with additional hinged armor protection weighing from 20 to 40 tons, not capable of floating.

Unlikely. Russia is gradually moving away from the purchase of military products from the former republics of the USSR. And it looks like the former republics are doing the same. Belarus is no exception in this matter.

Why is the engine Chinese? They have neither MAZ, nor MZKT, nor Belaz, finally, are they not able to make an engine for an armored personnel carrier?

MAZ has engines either from Yaroslavl YaMZ, or MAN, not from the Belarus tractor, but put the engine there.

hi A joint production of engines with the Chinese, the MAZ-Weichai plant, opened two years ago.

Well then, this is already a Belarusian engine. Their production.

There is no Belarusian that is suitable for its characteristics.

In the Great Stone they make diesel, 10 thousand per year.

Based on the fact that this is a joint venture with the Chinese, I will assume that these very Chinese engines are made in a great stone.

That's right, the Chinese engine. The director of the plant said in his speech that they are ready to quadruple the output. I understand that they make engines for MAZ every year.

This is good both from the point of view of logistics and from the point of view of feedback between enterprises. Which is very important.

It seems to me that the time has come to create an armored personnel carrier on a hybrid drive, so that there is a possibility of partial full electric propulsion. It is difficult to overestimate the possibility of silent movement for military equipment, since it would be possible to "sneak up". And let it be 30-50 km in the beginning, but it would be nice already. IMHO.

Well, yes, but firstly, electric motors are extra weight, and secondly, batteries, especially lithium-ion batteries, are flammable if damaged.

And buoyancy will be questionable. The mass of the electric motor plus the storage batteries will "eat up" the buoyancy, possibly up to negative. Even in electric vehicles, the weight of the batteries reaches 400 kilos, but how much battery mass should be supplied for a 20 ton colossus !?

Yeah, electric, Greta will be delighted, and MO is hemorrhagic with logistics, and if it hits, in addition to the previously known problems, there is also a "goat" in powerful "batteries", well, in fig.

Belarusians are great. if they quickly make a car in metal and put it into service in a couple of years and start supplying them to their troops, they can only be envied, not like our feeble officials from the military and defense industry

      Wait and see.
Belarusians already in the early 2000s embodied in metal and demonstrated BRDM-2T "Stalker" at exhibitions. But the business did not go further than the exhibition pokatukh.

"Delivery to your troops" is not about Belarus. The entire Belarusian defense industry is focused on piece production for external customers.

This "Chinese" engine is serially produced near Minsk and is installed on MAZs and other equipment. Just like Cummins is assembled in Russia and installed on Russian equipment.

You are absolutely right. For some reason, some commentators in the previous time hated us (Belarusians), they say, put the Chinese, almost traitors (absurd). Although in Russia itself, the same Cummins produces and a lot of things imported under license.
