America's newest SSC hovercraft exceed cost threshold

17

The SSC (Ship-to-Shore Connector) landing craft program for the US Navy has become too costly, exceeding the acceptable cost thresholds established by the procurement law, that is, by 25% or more. But the military department does not intend to abandon its implementation.

The US Navy believes that the excess cost of the program, while not critical, was caused by an increase in labor costs and a delay in construction due to protracted design (tests on water began only in 2018). Production is said to be running smoothly now.

The SSC are intended to replace the LCAC amphibious assault craft [74 in service] built in the 1990s. Textron won the contract for the development and construction of SSC in 2012, but so far only three boats have been delivered (out of 24 ordered). In total, the fleet intends to purchase 72 SSCs to deliver marines, equipment and equipment with a total cargo weight of 74 tons from warships.

The principal difference between the latest boats is the ability to "hover" over the waves at a high speed of 35 knots thanks to the air cushion.

This is an award for a successful project.
Still, the speed of a military vessel is under 70 km per hour, with a load, it is building an expensive one.

This is inflation and rising prices for everything, both as a result of various problems caused by the coronavirus, and as a result of the active printing of money by the States to support the economy.
For that fought for it and ran. And, oddly enough, they should suffer very decently. Because of the scale of the costs.
In our country, only metal has risen in price by 10% in a month, and there the rise in prices should be even greater.

Didn't LCAC hover? Breaststroke to the shore?

Presumably, this is a further development of the LCAC.
Our fundamentally different method was from the capitalist - a platform closed from precipitation and other non-payment.
The capitalist promotes everything open to all seas / rains and other sprays ...
But this is not beneficial to the landing comrades. Or is it? ..

Well, as if the sea at 35 knots is not pleasant ... Those who went by boat will understand. Even on a sunny warm day, even on the lake. "Wind in your mug, and I'm spilling ..." And then a little salty water will come from the pillow.
In general, the development is understandable, it is not clear what the "fundamental" difference is ...

Fundamentally, our vessels differ in that they are, to a certain extent, independent.
That is, they have on board some kind of salvo armament capable of creating an unfavorable situation for the enemy in areas, plus there is an AK 630. A pair of such machines also creates some sorrow.
Capitalists profess a different doctrine as far as I know.

No, no, no ... I saw our Bison, Stingrays, Chamois and I know it. I don’t understand the fundamental differences between LCAC and this new work. In my opinion, the same boat is just updated.

... This is not rare and not the only ones. They will carve out a pretty penny, probably.

Our old MDK "Zubr", "Dzheyran" reminded. In Novoozernoye they were at the KChF.
With masturbation to stealth technology, this has no common points of contact) And so, light alloys, good flammability. It is problematic to use it as an assault vehicle despite its good running speed; even a sleeping shore will wake up on approach long before attempting to climb it.

You see how interesting it is.
Enemy - develops its amphibious powers.
And we have a polemic: why do we need * Bison M *? ..
He eats a lot of kerosene. From the parasite ...
      Much about what? ...
You would think the military once worried about fuel consumption. How to bring it to six liters per hundred. Miles.? what
Otherwise, the steamer is completely unsuitable ... Yon will burn all the kerosene for us.
In a country where oil is pumped in millions of tons, the most likely opponents.
