"Turkey's position on the Russian S-400 is unchanged": Erdogan summed up the results of the meeting with Biden
Turkey does not intend to abandon the Russian S-400 anti-aircraft system; Ankara's position on this issue remains unchanged. This was stated by Turkish leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan following a meeting with Joe Biden at the NATO summit in Brussels.
Speaking at a press conference following the meeting, Erdogan said that during the talks with the American president, the issue of the S-400 air defense system was raised, the parties discussed it. At the same time, Turkey's position remains unchanged and Ankara does not intend to abandon the anti-aircraft system. According to the Turkish leader, other issues were also raised during the meeting, including the supply of fifth-generation F-35 fighters. The Turkish President did not clarify whether they had agreed on anything specific.
Thus, it can be stated that the United States did not get what it sought, namely, Turkey's abandonment of the Russian anti-aircraft system. As already mentioned on this subject in one of the news materials "Voennoye Obozreniye", Washington demanded that Ankara completely abandon the use of the S-400 in the Turkish air defense system or return the system to Russia. However, the Turks did not agree to this.
It is also unknown whether Erdogan made any progress in relations between the two countries, but even if the American leader advocates lifting sanctions on Turkey, it will be very difficult to do so. An anti-Turkish coalition has already formed in the US Congress, which is categorically against the lifting of restrictions.
So for now, everyone has remained with their own: Turkey with the S-400 and without the F-35, and the United States with sanctions.
