Marine transport weapons project 20360M, render

On June 1, 2021, in Rybinsk in the Yaroslavl Region, the procedure of the ceremonial launching of a new ship for the Russian Black Sea fleet... The lead ship of the Project 20360M series was named Gennady Dmitriev. The ship is being built at the facilities of the Vympel Shipyard JSC.

According to the official website of the plant, this is the largest ship in stories enterprises. The weight of the ship's hull is currently 2200 tons. The maritime transport of weapons is being built in Rybinsk according to the project 20360M. The lead ship of the series was named after Captain 1st Rank Gennady Dmitriev. The naval officer rose from the commander of the navigational unit of a small anti-submarine ship to the head of the department of state acceptance of ships of the Main Command of the Russian Navy.

The Vympel shipyard has been building ships for the Russian fleet since 1930. At the same time, the main specialization of the enterprise from Rybinsk was ships of small displacement. The plant actively builds missile boats, patrol boats, special-purpose boats, as well as small hydrographic vessels.

Launching of the ship of project 20360M in Rybinsk

The displacement of all ships previously built at the enterprise did not exceed a thousand tons. In this regard, the maritime transport of weapons of the project 20360M can be called a unique project for the enterprise. According to Evgeny Norenko, who holds the post of general director of the enterprise, now the Vympel plant has proved that it can and will build complex ships with a large displacement.

The thorny path of the ships of the project 20360M

The Russian Ministry of Defense signed a contract with the Vympel shipyard for the construction of two transport supply ships at the end of March 2016. The deadlines for the delivery of the vessels under the contract were to take place in November 2019 and December 2020, respectively. The keel-laying of the lead ship of the series, which was named Gennady Dmitriev, took place at the Vympel shipyard on May 5, 2017.

At the same time, it was not possible to meet the contractual deadlines, as is now often the case in Russian military shipbuilding. It is noted that the delay could be due to the fact that, according to the project, it was planned to place an imported power plant on the ship, in particular, they wrote about this in the bmpd military blog. The impossibility of obtaining the elements of this installation due to the sanctions imposed against Russia could become the main reason for the delay in the construction of ships of the series.

It is known that the Project 20360M maritime transport weapons were designed in Nizhny Novgorod by the specialists of the Vympel Design Bureau. This is a design bureau with a 90-year history. Its engineers have created more than 540 projects, which ultimately managed to build more than 6,5 thousand ships. One of the directions of the design bureau's work is precisely the creation of auxiliary and special ships for the Russian Navy.

Launching of the ship of project 20360M in Rybinsk

The first ship of the series, which was launched in Rybinsk on June 1 of this year, will serve in the Black Sea Fleet. It is reported that Russian sailors are eagerly awaiting the arrival of the ship in Sevastopol. The second ship, which is currently being built according to the same project 20360M, was named "Vladimir Pyalov". This ship will have to replenish the composition of the Baltic Fleet of Russia.

It is known that the ships of the project 20360M are a revised version of the maritime transport of weapons of the project 20360 (code of the project "Dubnyak"). This project was considered not entirely successful. The ships were also laid down by a series of two ships. The construction was carried out by Okskaya Shipyard (Navashino, Nizhny Novgorod Region).

Work under this contract began in 2004, but the first ship, after lengthy construction and testing, was included in the Caspian Flotilla only in 2013. The second ship was completed according to a revised project as a pilot vessel for testing torpedo armament under the project 20360OS. The ship was handed over to the Russian Navy only in 2016.

The ships of the project 20360 were equipped with diesel engines of the German company Deutz AG. The sea transports of weapons, built according to the modernized project, apparently could not get them. It is curious that during the laying of the lead ship of project 20360M at the Vympel plant, banners depicting the ship of the previous project Dubnyak were used. New renders were presented only in 2018.

Features of the maritime transport of weapons of the project 20360M

The ships of the modernized project significantly increased their displacement. If the vessels of the project 20360 had a full displacement in the region of 2000-2200 tons, then for the lead ship of the project 20360M the declared total displacement, according to the official website of the manufacturer, is already 3627 tons.

Among other things, the size of the new ships has grown. So the length of the maritime transport of weapons of the project 20360M "Gennady Dmitriev" is 77 meters (in the case of its predecessors 61,5 meters), the width of the ship is 16 meters, the side height is 6,3 meters, the total height is 14 meters. The draft of the ship is 4 meters.

The economic speed of the sea transport of weapons is 12 knots (approximately 22 km / h), the full speed is 14 knots (almost 26 km / h). The ship of project 20360M is driven by an electric power plant, which has two rudder propellers. The economic cruising range is estimated at 3000 miles. The ship's autonomy (in terms of provisions) is 30 days. The crew of the ship consists of 32 people, while there is the possibility of additional accommodation on board the ship for another 22 people.

This is where the information about the technical characteristics of the ship practically ends.

But a number of interesting features of the new maritime transport of weapons were published in the Russian press. In particular, in the "Rossiyskaya Gazeta" it was indicated that for the construction of the ship "Gennady Dmitriev" the plant "Vympel" purchased 190 tons of sheet and profile steel. The total length of the cable network inside the ship is estimated at 30 km, the total length of pipelines on board is 180 km. The journalists also named the number of rooms on the ship - more than XNUMX.

Already now we can say that the ships of the 20360M project are distinguished by better seaworthiness and are able to operate in different seas. Captain of the first rank Anzor Dandamaev, who was present in Rybinsk at the launching ceremony of the ship, noted that the Russian Navy is planning the serial construction of sea transports of weapons of this project. According to the officer, such ships are necessary for the Navy, since they are able to solve tasks not only in the distant sea, but also in the oceanic zone, including in the Arctic zone, since they have an ice class of the hull.

Launching of the ship of project 20360M in Rybinsk

The last statement is indeed true.

The ship of project 20360M received ice reinforcement of the hull, double sides and a double bottom. Designed for the reception, storage and transportation of weapons, including ready and prepared for use ammunition for submarines and surface ships, Gennady Dmitriev has two large cargo holds, a platform for transporting cargo in containers, as well as a helicopter landing pad located on the bow of the ship.

An important part of the maritime transport of weapons is a powerful cargo crane with a lifting capacity of 20 tons. It is known that the shipbuilding company "Shipbuilding Shiprepair" from Nizhny Novgorod was responsible for the delivery of the launching and lifting device to the ship, and the company "Morsvyazavtomatika" was responsible for the supply of communication equipment. Thanks to the set of equipment on board, the new ship is able to receive from the berths and transfer to the ships of the fleet of special cargo, both at the points of the fleet's base and in the open roadstead.

For an expanding fleet with new weapons systems and growing naval ambitions, especially in the Arctic, the ships of the 20360M project are really necessary. The Soviet and Russian fleets were almost always characterized by a shortage of ships for special and auxiliary purposes. This situation needs to be corrected.

At the same time, the Navy is confident that the first ship of project 20360M launched into the water will help the development of such ships. The project will not remain in the state of a bronze monument. The experience in the construction and operation of the Gennady Dmitriev ship should help in the further modernization and improvement of the military transports of this project.

It's good that they are trying to keep the design bureaus and shipbuilders afloat. But this transport will be useful at most on the roadstead in the home base. Something that interests me, where and how much can it deliver?

One thing I don't understand, what kind of fashion they took with the letters "20360M"? Why not 20361?

The letter "M" has been present in the codes of ships and vessels of the Navy since the 50s. Normal practice.

Transfer a couple of missiles and torpedoes to the ship at the base.

if you replenish the BC for a pair of frigates pr 11356 in the Mediterranean Sea, then it will be enough
if you recreate operational squadrons of the times of the USSR:
in the Atlantic (7), Indian (8) and Pacific (10), Mediterranean (5), Vietnam (17)
then you will need several large ships under 24000 VI

The article is certainly interesting, the Rybinsk fighters have been trying to hang wings on the Comet for two months now. The comet, as I understand it, heroically resists.

I repeat, launching the hull, this does not mean at all that the steamer will go into battle tomorrow.
It means absolutely nothing. The hull just passed mooring tests.

Ndya, the heroes in the country seem to have ended, so that it was in honor of whom the ship should be named .... I knew the late caprice G. Dmitriev. There was nothing heroic in his career. Controversial ... So you can call ships in honor of any officer ...

This is what they do here. Already "Ivan Rogov" with "Mitrofan Moskalenko" was laid. What are their merits? Ordinary staff officers. And this despite the fact that there is not a single ship in the entire fleet in honor of Lazarev, Senyavin, Greig, Kruzenshtern, Lisyansky, Kazarsky, Ilyin, Apraksin, Marinesko, I generally keep quiet about Kolchak.
Soon ships in honor of the Oktyabrskys will appear again ... The Kulakov BOD is already there ...

I am not a naval and can hardly correctly assess such a ship. But it seemed to me that this is not so much a transport as a floating crane. A kind of marine forklift stacker. The speed is small, therefore, he does not go as part of the order. The displacement is also child's, it will not carry away much.
Considering that it has some kind of ice training, it will be in great demand on the Northern Sea Route and new (and some old) naval bases. It is possible that he will be able to reload a submarine with torpedoes or some thread of a frigate if he works in a company with classic sea transport.

    ...
I wonder if he has a fixed boom height or is there a telescope?

Oh, someone didn’t like the question ... No, it is necessary to demand justification from minus users - what exactly caused the minus? Okay, if it was some kind of statement or controversial opinion, but such a reaction to a simple question? And I didn’t just ask. The fact is that merchant seamen (there are some) already have some experience of using helicopters for loading and unloading. At least there was. And I wonder if the previous developments and, most importantly, impressions from them were used in the design of the vessel (by the ship, sorry, I will not name)? I will continue especially for you.

In the late 1980s, a small series of supply vessels for the Arctic regions was built for the Far Eastern Shipping Company. Comrades scientists stuffed them with a lot of revolutionary ideas: there was a ramp for unloading on ice, spied on by the Finns with their wonderful CA-15 ships, and cargo platforms on an air cushion, and helicopters for unloading onto an unequipped shore. What came of it? The lead ship Vitus Bering barely made it from the plant in Kherson to the home port of Vladivostok, because the diesel generators of the Kolomna plant (a familiar name, right?) Did not want to work and collapsed right on the go. Having dragged to the house, "Bering" with relief got up to the pier, connected to the shore power supply and froze there for four months while squabbles with the Kolomentians were settled. I think he even missed the summer Arctic navigation because of this. The Kolomentians were no longer invited to the next steamers, the Polish Sulzers were put there. In general, the steamers turned out to be very strange, for example, with a full displacement of 20 thousand tons, their deadweight (that is, cargo + reserves) was only 9600 tons. That is, the body with the mechanisms weighed more than the payload. But this is, so to speak, an introduction. And now about the helicopters.

The first experiences of unloading on unequipped shore showed that great ideas do not work. Nobody saw the hovercraft platforms (even the Finns stopped supplying them with the SA-15), and the helicopters were embarrassing. It was assumed that the ship will be based on two Ka-32 with coaxial propellers and without a steering boom. The architecture of the ship was as follows: the hangar, helipad and engine room were in the stern, the superstructure was located in the bow, three cargo holds were pressed between the hangar and the superstructure, separated by two platforms with high twin cargo cranes, and in front of the superstructure there was another hold. As a result, the Ka-32 was not available and was replaced by some kind of large Mi. Like Mi-8. Due to its size, it was located in splendid isolation, and the helicopter pilots refused to carry out cargo operations - it was too dangerous, it was easy to hook on either ship cranes or a superstructure. Actually, here is a photo where everything is clearly visible:

The test unloading of the bow hold using a helicopter took place as follows: the ship launched two self-propelled barges (the most common ones that were always used in the Arctic for self-unloading), they approached the bow end, loaded, crawled to the stern, the cargo was transferred from them to the cover of one of the holds - and already there they were caught by a helicopter and carried to the shore. And if you also consider that the cargo was for the most part unpackaged ... it is easy to imagine what a hassle it turned into. Naturally, after the first such experiments, helicopter hangars on ships were used only for playing volleyball.

That's why I asked: what is the helicopter on this carrier of cartridges for? And if for unloading, how?

Who's in the subject? The render shows rudders with one propeller. In the photo of the hull from the stern, on the slipway, on the rudders, there are two propellers. One is four-bladed, the other is five-bladed. What is the know-how?

Due to the fact that the second screw works in the swirling flow of the first. The number and shape of the blades is different.

And what is Kolchak famous for? Great naval commander? He boldly crossed out all his deeds, entangled with the interventionists.
Then let's name something in honor of Rozhdestvensky.

He is an Arctic explorer. As a naval commander, he unsuccessfully drove 2 German cruisers across the Black Sea. On the other hand, the fleet was busy with business and there it was not like revolutionary sentiments among the sailors roamed in the Baltic. As a commander - organizing and supporting thousand-kilometer marches across Siberia in winter. Although the figure is controversial, what is already there. It is hardly worth calling the ships after him. Lieutenant Kolchak - yes. Admiral Kolchak - definitely not.
