Qatar may become a territory for the deployment of US and NATO troops withdrawn from Afghanistan
The United States and NATO are not abandoning their attempts to create military bases near Afghanistan for the deployment of military contingents withdrawn from the country. Qatar may be one of the options, Reuters reports.
According to the agency, which cites sources familiar with the situation, representatives of the alliance are already negotiating with Qatar to deploy one military base on its territory. According to the plans of the US military, this base will be used to train Afghan soldiers.
This information was confirmed by a representative of one of the NATO countries working in Kabul. According to him, it is planned to create a special training center for high-ranking Afghan military personnel in Qatar. Instructors from the USA, Great Britain and Turkey will work at the base. The Qatari authorities have already received a corresponding proposal.
As previously stated in the Pentagon, the United States does not intend to release Afghanistan from its zone of influence, despite the withdrawal of the military contingent. To this end, the US military intends to create several military bases near the Afghan border for control. With appropriate proposals, Washington has addressed several states.
To date, it is known that they refused, or announced a refusal: Pakistan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan. Kazakhstan is in a "suspended" state, there is no official comment on the statement "on strengthening the US military potential" on Kazakh territory. It is possible that the United States is negotiating with a number of other countries, but so far they have not reported this.
