The Danish Foreign Ministry summoned the Russian ambassador in connection with the "incident" with Russian aircraft near the island of Bornholm
It became known that the Danish Foreign Ministry summoned the Russian ambassador in connection with the "incident in the area of the island of Bornholm." For reference: this island belongs to Denmark and is located in the Baltic Sea.
The head of the Danish Foreign Ministry, Jeppe Kofod, says that the Russian ambassador has been summoned "for a conversation" at the Foreign Ministry in connection with the fact that the aircraft of the Russian Aerospace Forces allowed the incident, "twice violating Danish airspace in the area of Bornholm Island." It is emphasized that we are talking about "violation of the airspace of a country that is a NATO member."
Jeppe Kofod:
On his Twitter microblog, the Danish minister spoke out more harshly. He wrote that "it is completely unacceptable for Russian aircraft to violate Danish airspace, especially twice a day."
Trine Brahmsen, Minister of Defense of the Danish Kingdom, also commented on the situation. According to her, F-16 fighters of the Danish Royal Air Force had to be raised to intercept Russian aircraft.
Brahmsen:
Copenhagen notes that the "incident" near the island of Bornholm occurred during the NATO military exercises Baltops in the Baltic Sea, in which the forces and means of 18 countries were involved.
It is not reported which Russian military aircraft were sent to intercept the Danish F-16s.
