Russian long-range interceptors MiG-31BM received new weapons aviation R-74M melee missiles. The new ammunition is supplied as standard. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Defense.
The military department has begun serial purchases of R-74M short-range air combat missiles to equip MiG-31BM interceptor fighters. The new missile is capable of not only destroying enemy aircraft, but also perfectly copes with drones and cruise missiles.
The decision to equip the interceptors with new missiles, they write "News" with reference to the military, adopted as part of the expansion of the tasks set for the MiG-31, which were upgraded to the MiG-31BM version. The first MiG-31 exercises using the new missile were held in Kamchatka and were recognized as successful.
RVV-MD R-74M is a revised R-73 missile with an improved dual-band infrared homing head, the maximum range, according to information from open sources, is 40 km, the minimum range is 300 meters. The Su-30SM and Su-57 will also be supplied to service.
Earlier it was reported that the MiG-31BM will receive new capabilities and will be able to intercept missiles, including ballistic ones. As part of the upgrade, the aircraft should also receive a new multifunctional long-range intercept missile system (MFRK DP), capable of intercepting, including hypersonic weapon.
