Indian press: It may happen that Putin convinces Biden to drop sanctions against India for the purchase of S-400
The Indian press decided to discuss the agenda of the upcoming meeting of the presidents of Russia and the United States, which (the meeting) will take place on June 16 in Geneva. India believes that Vladimir Putin and Joe Biden "should also raise the issue of Indian-Russian cooperation in the military-technical sphere."
It turned out that Indian experts suggest that at the meeting between Putin and Biden, the topic of the upcoming deliveries of Russian S-400 Triumph anti-aircraft missile systems will be discussed. Recall that such air defense systems have already been contracted, and the first deliveries should be carried out by the end of 2021.
The Indian media recalled that the United States continues to threaten India with sanctions in the format of the CAATSA package (law). This law presupposes a sanctions effect on countries that buy weapons from the Russian Federation.
When US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin made his first visit to India, he was asked whether sanctions against India would be imposed in connection with the acquisition of the S-400 air defense system from Russia. Austin then said that until the S-400 was delivered to India, there was no point in talking about sanctions. But deliveries will take place in any case, which was recently confirmed by the Indian Ambassador to Moscow Venkatesh Varma.
Indian media indicate that "Putin and Biden should discuss the supply of S-400 to India." At the same time, India expresses the hope that the Russian president "will find arguments against his American colleague regarding military-technical cooperation with New Delhi, which cannot be put under external pressure."
believe in the Indian media.
Thus, India is already openly pinning its hopes on Vladimir Putin in the sense that he "is able to influence Biden when discussing the supply of Russian military equipment abroad."
