Britain decided to build a National flagship

30

The British government officially announced on 30 May that a new National Flagship would be built.

This is not a decorative trinket or a yacht for the Royal family, but a platform for displaying the British flag abroad [...] The project is fully consistent stories and the future of Great Britain as a maritime trading nation

- the Navy Lookout edition explains the value of the vessel.

At the same time, it is indicated that the Royal Navy has always shown concern when conducting discussions about the advisability of building a flagship. The command feared that this "banquet" would take place at the expense of the Navy. As a result, it was decided that financing will be carried out under a separate item of expenditures of the Ministry of Defense.

Unlike aircraft carriers, which demonstrate military power overseas, the national flagship will bribe foreigners with convenience and comfort. This role was previously held by HMY Britannia, a royal yacht that was decommissioned in 1997. After that, the throne did not insist on replacement, being guided by the principles of the "truncated monarchy".

HMY Britannia, Brisbane, Australia, 1967.

As you know, the displacement of the new national flagship will be about 7,5 thousand tons, length - 125 m. The deck will be able to receive helicopters, but there will be no hangar. The power plant will be represented by a diesel-electric engine. On board will be a conference center, a briefing room, VIP suites and a reception area for up to 200 people, and many accommodations for staff, guests and VIPs.

It will be built to commercial rather than military standards, essentially a small cruise ship with some individual enhancements specific to its role.

- noted in the publication.

It is assumed that the flagship will not have ship security. At the same time, he will have the ability to use removable light weapons. The ship will be able to take on board a small group of Marines.

$ 284 million is allocated for the construction of the flagship. The procurement process is planned to be accelerated: the winner of the tender should be determined by the end of 2021. It is possible that the ship, scheduled to enter service in 2025, will be named "HMS Prince Philip".

What for is such a navy ship ?!

It's like "architectural overkill" in construction ...

Will this ship put an end to the history of the British monarchy?

There has long been talk about the exorbitant excesses and the exorbitant cost of the "firm" for the budget (this is how their family is called - almost "lads" it turns out, with the light hand of the very late Prince Philip, whose name the ship will be named after).

After the death of the queen, Charles III (Charles the Third) must ascend to the throne, and the name is oh, what an unfortunate one for their monarchy. Charles I was executed, and Charles II, his son, was "restored" to the throne. In 1649, a revolution and execution took place under the leadership of Oliver Cromwell. And in 1660, the son who had fled to France was summoned ...
The story is not easy, with subtleties. But in general it is so.

There is another historical precedent. How one party, the most luxurious in the world practice, killed the monarch. I'm talking about the Shah of Iran, Mohammed Reza Pahlavi.
He threw such a banquet for foreign guests ... He built a whole oasis in the desert for three days. He was then overthrown, and this event was recalled as almost the most important sin! drinks
He did not invite a single Iranian (even the ministers were not called), alcohol flowed like a river ...
He even apologized to the people on TV! But that didn't save him ...

The construction of this flagship will obviously end after the change of the crowned person ... And after the flag is raised on the ship, it may have to be lowered forever ... Everywhere.

What happens if it's not a secret? 286 mil is the price of one high-rise building for blacks, if anything. Britain will not become poorer.

There is a lot of controversy about the popularity of the royal family. About cost and luxury. And about real power, "royal prerogative". About the outdated House of Lords, etc.

A yacht is a demonstrative gesture that will cause disgust in many. And, if it lies down at an inconvenient moment, it can do a lot of harm. The amount itself is secondary ...

There is a feudal system. How incomprehensible it is to us now! If we were to return the estates that were before 1917, we would be shocked ... In their society, they think in “classes”. They are subjects, not citizens. And this is very "undemocratic", although officially there is supposedly democracy, this word is also imposed from above. They are approaching the line of at least reforming, otherwise there will be a fall. And leaving the EU is an attempt to save the monarchical rule, because the neighborhood with the republics sharpened the kingdom in their heads.

Elizabeth's popularity and confidence in her is about 75%, but Charles hangs about 40%, they don't really want him in the role of king.
At the same time, according to polls, most of the British are not sure that the monarchy will survive 2050, there are definitely more than half. Only William remained with an acceptable rating, the rest were all mired in scandals and distrust of the population.

Withdrawal from the United Kingdom of Scotland or Northern Ireland, if it happens, will trigger a powerful round of discussion ...

I am interested in the topic, but not so much their family itself, but the abolition of the monarchy. A bit of the English legal system. From time to time I listen to their oppositionists. One can argue that one can listen to ours and wait for the "fall of the regime", but the problems of British society are clearly visible.
Well, I lived there for 3 years (family, diplomatic childhood), I have an idea ...

Well, I lived there for 3 years, I have an idea ..
In general, I have been living here for 17 years, from the age of majority. The monarchy is positively neutral here, and the opponents are only anti-foz-leftists. Polls are good, but they always reflect the opinion of those who conduct them - according to some polls, for example, 55% of the population of the Russian Federation wants to see Navalny as president Yes .
Withdrawal from the United Kingdom of Scotland
It will take place when the sheets find a source of 15 billion pounds a year (these are 5 new aircraft carriers of the Queen Elizabeth class). So far, there is no alternative to Whitehall in this matter, and without subsidies, independent Scotland will become not at all such a comfortable place to live, like Romania approximately.
There's a lot of controversy going on there
Empty chatter. Everything is the same as before. Business as usual.

Neighborhood with which particular republic sharpened the kingdom? Italy and Portugal, moving in battalions to much richer Britain? Or Belgium and the Netherlands? No, it's an ambush lol Brexit is a response to uncontrolled migration and the subsequent milking of a social system that is generous even in comparison with France and Germany. The British government officially announced on 30 May that a new National Flagship would be built.

In Britain, as in many countries where the monarchy existed or exists, there is also such a thing as a royal yacht or imperial yacht - a royal or imperial yacht, the crew of which, as a rule, consists of naval sailors.
Used for personal or official travel by the royal (imperial) family.
In Britain, the first royal yacht was the HMY Mary of King Charles II, founded in 1660 and costing the royal treasury at the time of 644 pounds.

The last, 1997rd, was HMY Britannia, which Labor won the election and retired in XNUMX following a wave of populist campaign slogans about "budget savings."
Now the Conservatives, in turn, have decided to take advantage of the long tradition "for propaganda purposes" and for a very modest 280 million pounds to build, in fact, a new royal yacht, as a symbol of the revival of the former British naval power, British shipbuilding and Britain's role in world politics.

I'm wondering if someone knows that the English monarch is still the head of several states in the British Commonwealth. And not everywhere there are royal apartments, if he is a nominal ruler, but nevertheless, I think there is political expediency in building a yacht.

He or she) is the head of 16 states. But in these countries he (she) is referred to not as the king (queen) of Great Britain, but as the king (queen) of New Zealand, the king (queen) of Australia. king (queen) of Canada, etc. For example, when the issue of appointing governors-general of Canada, Australia, etc. is being decided, the queen decides this issue in agreement with local governments. In fact, she appoints the person whom the prime ministers of Canada, Australia, etc. will advise her to. The British government has been out of business since the mid-20th century.
Of the territories ever dependent on Great Britain, the United States, Egypt, Iraq, Bahrain, Jordan, Kuwait and Oman are not part of the Commonwealth and have never expressed a desire to join it. But Mozambique is a member of the Commonwealth, although it has never been neither a colony, nor a protectorate, nor a dominion of Great Britain.

No, I am not manipulating. I have an idea. He even studied with the British in elementary school (in parallel with the ambassadorial at the external school).
And at the same time I am still interested in this country. Like the United States, where I similarly stayed on business trips (long-term with my parents and then on my short-term) ...

But there are different tendencies in society. Where it is relatively neutral, everything can swing in any direction. And liking / disliking the monarchy too. Ukraine is an example of this - there, too, everything was neutral and positive towards Russia, and then a massive fooling began ... There was already a revolution in England in the 1640s, and it was also greeted with enthusiasm.

And the passport may be written, but all the same, the opposition insist that nothing has changed. I haven't leafed through the British passport, but there is this propaganda moment, which is still cited as an example. Under a monarchy, there are always subjects, and part of the people wants a republic.

I don’t want to argue. I am interested in a fruitful discussion ... I am looking more at the other part of the British political spectrum. The people there are livelier, and the problems are discussed more acutely. From the official point of view, everything is generally clear to me. wink

Well, again, they love to listen to and quote our oppositionists. Well, we are not very different. I don't have a bad attitude towards the British, I just analyze what is happening.

The aforementioned law states the opposite. Yes Poor Belgians, Spanish, Dutch, Norwegians, Danes and Swedes wassat And what is it like for them to live under the rule of kings .. Give freedom and revolution!
Ukraine is an example of this - there, too, everything was neutral and positive towards Russia.
Comparing Britain and Ukraine? Didn't they grub for three years in London at the Ukrainian embassy?
looking at the other side of the british political spectrum

The flagship, after all!
