Transnistrian armed conflict: almost 30 years later

March 2, 2021 will mark 29 years since the beginning of the armed conflict in Transnistria. After the collapse of the USSR, this region did not want to follow the path proposed by the new authorities in Chisinau. And then the path was designated as follows - "together with Romania." Pridnestrovians proclaimed their own republic, with which Chisinau was not ready to agree. As a result, the first shots were fired on the eastern bank of the Dniester, and a few days later heavy weapons were also used.

According to eyewitnesses of those events, the Moldovan army did not spare either effort or money to “rein in” the rebellious young republic. On the streets of Pridnestrovian cities appeared Tanks Moldovan army. One of the hottest spots on the map of Moldova at that time was the city of Bender. The war crimes committed there have not yet received a clear assessment either from Chisinau or from international institutions.

Russia was able to put an end to the bloody conflict in 1992.

Interestingly, Moscow then advocated the introduction of UN peacekeepers into Transnistria. But the Western "partners" decided that it would be expensive and endowed the Russian military with peacekeeping status. And the current leadership of Moldova, deliberately ignoring the fact that for almost 30 years peace reigns on the banks of the Dniester due to the Russian presence, is trying to squeeze out the Russian peacekeeping contingent.

The situation is described in the program "Access Code". Almost 30 years after those events:

    They interfere with them like a bone in the throat.
    "Transnistria is a breakaway region. Representatives of the constitutional authority of Moldova cannot get there. But we will find a format for resolving the conflict. It should include the complete withdrawal of Russian troops from Moldovan territory."

    This was stated by Maia Sandu a month before the inauguration.

      These daughters are mongrels, they can't even bite, they just breach from under the fence. How afraid they are of the dark and other dogs.

      Well, where is it said about the withdrawal of the Russian peacekeeping forces from Moldova ...
      Even at the beginning of the video for the article, the President of Moldova spoke about the withdrawal of the OGRF, and not the Russian peacekeepers from Moldova ...
      The commentator specifically says all the time that Moldova wants the withdrawal of the peacekeepers, people are constantly confused, the OGRF and the Russian peacekeepers in the PMR are different things ...

    This is understandable for Pridnestrovie, but why Gagauzia is constantly discarded from political accounts, there has always been an anti-Romanian vector, now the Turks are getting there. It would not be bad for Russia to have its own influence there, especially since it was there once.

      There are not so many Gagauzians to significantly influence the political situation.
      The autonomy does not yet have an open conflict with the official Chisinau.

    Yes, everything is clear that Transnistria will be shaken now. The position of the Russian Federation is vulnerable there - all around are "friends"

    This is on the main square of Tiraspol - scenery for the May Day parade. The city lives the usual quiet life of a small southern town - in the bar there is Czech beer on tap, and the history is reminiscent of the warnings on the walls, where under the stencil paint it is written that there is a bomb shelter nearby.

    Why didn't you get it? Got.
    A whole bunch of lawsuits in the ECHR were considered on a variety of grounds
    https://ru.wikipedia.org/wiki/Права_человека_в_Приднестровской_Молдавской_Республике
    for example

    The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) found Russia responsible for violating land ownership rights in Transnistria about 1,65 thousand citizens and three companies from Moldova. The compensation awarded to the applicants was approximately € 2,5 million.

    or
    The Strasbourg court found Russia guilty of violating a number of articles of the European Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms. Among other things, according to the Strasbourg judges, Moscow violated Article 3 on the prohibition of torture and inhuman treatment, Article 5 on the right to liberty and security and Article 13 on the right to an effective remedy.

    or here is the case file in the ECHR
    https://www.srji.org/resources/search/36/
    1. The case was initiated by a complaint (No. 48787/99) brought before the Court against the Republic of Moldova and the Russian Federation in accordance with Article 34 of the Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms (“the Convention”) by four Moldovan citizens, Mr Ilie Ilascu, Mr Alexander Leshko, Mr. Andrey Ivantos and Mr. Tudor Petrov-Popa. (“The applicants”), 5 April 1999.

    2. The complaint mainly concerns acts committed by the authorities of the Republic of Transnistria, a region of Moldova that declared its independence in 1991 but was not recognized by the international community.

    decision on the case
    20. Holds by 10 votes to XNUMX that Moldova must pay the applicants, within three months, the following amounts, plus any taxes that may be imposed on this amount:

    (a) Mr Ivantos, Mr Leshko and Mr Petrov-Popa 60,000 (sixty thousand euros) each in respect of pecuniary and non-pecuniary damage;

    (b) to each applicant 3,000 (three thousand euros) in respect of non-pecuniary damage for violations of Article 34 of the Convention;

    (c) to the applicants the amount of EUR 7000 minus EUR 1,321.34 already received in legal aid, in legal costs

    21. Holds by 16 votes to one that the Russian Federation shall pay the applicants, within three months, the following amounts, plus any taxes payable on these amounts:

    (a) Mr Ilascu 180,000 (one hundred and eighty thousand euros) in respect of non-pecuniary and pecuniary damage;

    (b) to each of the remaining applicants, 120,000 (one hundred and twenty thousand euros) in respect of non-pecuniary and pecuniary damage;

    (c) to each applicant 7,000 (seven thousand euros) in respect of non-pecuniary damage for a violation of Article 34 of the Convention;

    (d) to the applicants 14,000 (fourteen thousand euros) minus 2,642.66 (two thousand six hundred forty-two euros 66 cents) already received in legal aid, in legal costs.

    Peacekeepers have a status or do not have, everything will be decided within the framework of this.
    For us, “we don’t abandon our own people,” although lately this has only caused sarcasm and thought it’s better to bring Central Asians to us than to create real conditions for the return of compatriots.
    For them, Moldovans, Transnistria are separatists, illegal armed groups and others.
    Everyone has their own truth.

    IMHO, we need to take our people so that Moscow is Moscow and remains that way, and not become Moskvabad.

    One of the first "hot" conflicts in the USSR.
    One of the latest applications of the Rapier anti-tank gun directly to tanks.
    And a visible proof that it is Russia that knows how to end conflicts. Eh, they wouldn’t piss to send a contingent to Donbass.
