Hypersonic missile "Gremlin" will be released for state tests in 2023
The newest Russian hypersonic aviation The guided missile, codenamed Gremlin, will enter the state joint testing phase in 2023. Reported by "News".
The characteristics of the Gremlin are not disclosed, it is known that the missile is smaller in size than the previously developed hypersonic Dagger. The small size of the new missile will make it possible to use it not only from the MiG-31 bombers and interceptors, but also from the Su-57, Su-35 and Su-30SM fighters. It is assumed that the range of the missile will be up to 1,5 thousand km, and the hypersonic speed will be equal to 6 Mach.
According to the documents of the Ministry of Defense, to which Izvestia refers, the development work on the new hypersonic missile began in 2018 after the signing of the corresponding contract with the Tactical Missile Armament Corporation (KTRV). State joint tests of the hypersonic Gremlin are scheduled for 2023.
At present, tests are underway for the propulsion system of the rocket, which has received the designation "product 70". The development of a ramjet rocket engine is carried out by the Soyuz TMKB (Turaevskoe Machine-Building Design Bureau).
Also in early February, there were reports of a test of the Su-57 fighter with mass and size mock-ups of an unnamed hypersonic missile. It was reported that the size of the new ammunition allows it to be placed in the internal compartments of the fighter.
