Ammunition for the price of a good car: It became known about the next versions of the Abrams tanks

42

It became known about what next updates will receive versions of the American tank Abrams. We are talking about the M1A2C and M1A2 SEP v4 versions, the financing of the program for the creation of which is laid down in the incredible size of the US military budget for 2021. At the same time, the M1A2 SEP v4 Abrams variant is planned to be put into production in the mid-2020s.

The M1A2C Abrams version has several innovations. One of them is an auxiliary power unit in addition to the Honeywell AGT1500 M1 gas turbine engine with a capacity of about 1,5 thousand hp. As a result, the power density increased, which, allegedly, added opportunities for the "Abrams" to increase travel speed and maneuverability.

However, there is a problem: the upgrade of the power plants so far leads to the fact that the M1A2C Abrams shows unstable operation in operating conditions in mountainous areas. At the same time, the engine, as before, is multi-fuel. It can apply gasoline, diesel fuel, marine diesel fuel, aviation fuel.

The M1A2C Abrams version is equipped with new communication tools, updated highly sensitive infrared sensors FLIR, which detect the target and allow the aiming system to track it in various weather conditions and when setting, for example, aerosol masking.

On new versions of the tank, including the M1A2 SEP v4, an updated electronic warfare system will be implemented, designated as the CREW Duke V3-4. It is capable of countering the use of remotely controlled explosive devices that can be deployed along the roadside.

For the M1A2 SEP v4 version, APM v4 120 mm ammunition is being created. It should combine several ammunition at once, including the M908 Obstacle Reduction and MPAT. However, the price of the updated ammunition will be incredibly high. At first, an option was reported for over $ 55. Shells for the price of a good car are an option that does not seem to be of particular concern to the Pentagon at their level of military budget.

So the rule that "a miser pays twice" has not been canceled !!!
But, not everyone can afford it!

It is rather wasteful. Or just another lobbying of some manufacturers. Let's say that warehouses are supposed to have a stock of shells for two months of intense hostilities. At this price, this stock will cost so much ... for more than 2 thousand cars ...

Counting other people's BABOSIKI is an empty matter ...
The ammunition "working", effective, will be made ... such are their conditions, opportunities.

War has always been and will be a huge waste. We need a balance. But since their military-industrial complex has finally decided to milk the budget and will definitely not stop, this is their business.) Let them have fun.

It all depends on ... yes, on many reasons, but first of all, on the mood of the top, leading ones.

... or you can recall the fact that the Americans at every corner prove that the Germans in WWII were defeated by their own "long conveyor". Tiger-2 supposedly, the best tank of that period, but while the Germans were making 1 Tiger, the enemy managed to rivet 10 34-ok ... winked

          This is a wrong opinion.
The correct one sounds like this: While the Germans riveted one Tiger, the enemy managed to cook 10 34-ok ...

Any tank is a complex, technological product .... if someone thinks that he was able to downgrade the value of the VICTORY TANK, the "workhorse" of that war, calling it whatever you like, even riveted ... for a native speaker of Russian, this means that he is ALIEN for us, who are RUSSIAN IN SPIRIT! He has a language, but he does not have a country, and that's it.

Oh, what's the difference ?! That is the meaning, the Tiger is supposedly a limousine, and the T-34 is a bus. Well, of course, the quality will be different, but the point is that the limousine - nafig did not fall for intercity transportation. And that he is riveted, and not sharpened with a file, does not matter - he is in his place, and the limousine is that. Lost.
Why am I, the exceptional ones have the same cant. Well, you stuffed the troops with strangers. Now oops!

"Signature" of the American battalion and its transport convoy deployed during the exercise, obtained from the American electronic reconnaissance satellite. N-nu and? wink

Under Soviet rule, the ATGM cost as much as 2109 .... so there is nothing surprising. And ATGM has become more complex and more expensive and inflation. That dollar is not a modern dollar.

... That dollar is not a modern dollar ....... in general, the production of a product is measured in man-hours, that is. how much energy will be required in a certain time to get the final product ... let me remind you that the outgoing parameters are 780 watts and 1 hour (60 minutes, 3600 seconds) ... and how this value is paid ... everyone has a different way, even in dollars. even in tugriks. even in parrots ... the main thing is energy costs

Well, if we are talking about digging holes, then yes, it can be done in man-hours. And when the final product is a little more technological - the computer is there, the car - everything becomes a little more complicated here (by several orders of magnitude)

And when the final product is a little more technological - the computer is there, the car - everything becomes a little more complicated here (orders of magnitude) ....... you are not attentive. man-hours is an indicator. it does not matter who exactly is engaged in the production of the product, an automaton or a person ... the parameter is energy consumption ... and the price of energy in different countries in different ways ...
well, holes are dug even for free and often for themselves

Do I understand correctly that with this methodology, the work of a black man picking bananas should be worth more than, say, the work of a programmer writing a program?

What does the ATGM and the blank have to do with it? And then ATGM was the most modern and the most advanced. And a disc for 55 thousand should punch to the earth's crust and also with homing.

at a price of more than 55 thousand dollars.
Walk, walk like that. The rich have their own quirks, and if you count it well, then most likely the manufacturer has overestimated the price by at least twice. If the military budget increases, then the price of ammunition will jump.

If an ammunition costing a car with a high probability destroys a target many times higher than the cost of the ammunition, then the price is justified. And if you add the possible damage from its actions to the cost of the goal, then the price is justified many times over.

Unclear. An auxiliary power plant (APU) is used to save the resource of the main power plant and fuel. When the tank is in position, instead of the main engine, it starts the APU and it supplies the tank with power with its generator, allowing all the equipment of the tank to work.
What does the power density, travel speed and maneuverability have to do with it?

A very curious projectile M908 High Explosive Obstacle Reduction Tracer (HE-OR-T). I understand that this is an upgrade of the HEAT-fragmentation M830A1 with an increased amount of explosives, which makes it something like an armor-piercing high-explosive fragmentation projectile. I wonder if this ammunition has any analogue in the range of shells of the Russian army or the armies of other countries?
