"Admiral Chabanenko" goes on exercises in the Norwegian Sea
Large anti-submarine ship "Admiral Chabanenko" went to the Norwegian Sea for joint exercises with the Americans and Norwegians. During the maneuvers called "Northern Eagle", the sailors of the three countries will have to work out joint actions to combat pirates.
Marine platoon on the pier of the main base of the North fleet receives the last briefing. The fighters of the assault battalion, together with the crew of the anti-submarine ship Admiral Chabanenko, are sent to international exercises in the Norwegian Sea. Together with the American and Norwegian special forces, the marines will have joint exercises to repel the attacks of sea pirates.
"Our role will be invisible: approach the boat, inspect the ship for explosive, narcotic and illegally transported cargo," explains the commander of the Marine Corps Battalion, Valery Tyurichev.
This will be the fourth international maritime maneuvers "Northern Eagle". From the American side, the destroyer Arleigh Burke will participate in them, Norway will be represented by the coast guard ship Nordkapp, under the flag of the Russian Navy, the Admiral Chabanenko. For a week, seafarers from the three countries will have to perform various exercises around 20, including joint maneuvering at night, and firing at air and surface targets.
"Of course, the competitive spirit is present between our ships and NATO ships. It is felt not only by us, but also by our subordinates. Everyone is trying to accomplish the assigned tasks better than others, therefore we spread all the episodes in full," the large anti-submarine commander says ship "Admiral Chabanenko" Stanislav Varik.
One of the phases of the exercise will be to assist a ship in distress. A little later, the ship group will join aviation: from our side - Su-33 fighters, F-16 planes and Orion naval reconnaissance aircraft will fly from Norwegian airfields.
Everything is ready for the long march - the large anti-submarine ship Admiral Chabanenko has already entered the Kola Bay raid. The Russian command expects that the exercises will be held on schedule, weather forecasters have promised good weather and calm. After a few hours the ship should go to the open sea and head for Norway.
