Reincarnation of the PTRS. Ukrainian anti-material rifle "Alligator"

77

It should be noted that interest in anti-material rifles is returning in many countries. Ukraine is no exception. Local company Snipex pleases for the second year in a row armory the public with large-caliber novelties of its own design. Last year, the company's engineers presented the T-Rex anti-material rifle, which was the direct heir to the famous PTR of the mid-14,5th century. A rifle chambered for 114x2020 mm could rightfully be called the successor of the Dragunov (PTRD) and Simonov (PTRS) anti-tank rifles. In XNUMX, the company introduced another novelty in the same caliber - the Alligator large-caliber rifle.

Large-caliber sniper rifles from Kharkov

The company and the Snipex brand appeared quite recently, this happened in 2014. Organizationally, Snipex is a part of the large XADO-Holding company from Kharkov (stylized spelling XADO). Initially, this company specialized in the production of engine oils, lubricants, oil additives and automotive chemicals. The development and production of large-caliber high-precision small arms in Kharkov came relatively recently. However, over the past six years, the company's designers have already presented several models of large-caliber sniper rifles. The first of which were the Snipex M75 and M100 models, chambered for 12,7x108 mm. The rifle can also be presented in NATO caliber 12,7x99 mm. The declared effective firing range for the Snipex M models was up to 2300 meters, depending on the barrel length.

However, the enough running caliber of 12,7 mm seemed to be insufficiently powerful for the Kharkov designers. And already in the last couple of years, models of anti-material rifles chambered for 14,5x114 mm have been presented on the market. Some Russian weapons publications indicated the effective firing range of the new rifles at 3000 meters, but the manufacturer's official website gives a much more modest value - 2000 meters. At the same time, the maximum flight range of a 14,5-mm bullet is impressive in any case: 7000 meters.

T-Rex large bore sniper rifle

The caliber chosen by the Kharkov company evokes direct associations with the most famous Soviet anti-tank guns of the Second World War. The first model in the "anti-tank" caliber was the T-Rex rifle, a demonstration sample of which was first shown in Kiev at the "Arms and Security" exhibition in 2017. It was a single-shot large-caliber sniper rifle with a sliding bolt action, made according to the bullpup scheme. A distinctive feature of this anti-material rifle is the fact that it was originally developed taking into account the requirements for weapons for high-precision shooting.

The next step of rifles under the Snipex brand was the Alligator large-caliber sniper rifle, in which all the ideas embodied in the T-Rex model received a certain development. The main difference between the Alligator and its predecessor is the transition to multiple charges. This model of small arms received a magazine designed for five rounds.

Like all models of anti-material weapons, Kharkov rifles are designed to defeat manpower and equipment of the enemy. With their help, you can effectively hit stationary and mobile targets, including lightly armored ones. The 14,5 mm caliber contributes to this. Such weapons can pose a serious danger to all wheeled army equipment, as well as classic Soviet armored personnel carriers and infantry fighting vehicles.

Features of the anti-material rifle "Alligator"

Anti-material high-precision rifle "Alligator" is a classic example of "bolt" small arms with magazine feed of cartridges. The magazine-fed rifle, unlike its predecessor T-Rex, provides an increased rate of fire. The presence of a removable box magazine, designed for five cartridges of 14,5x114 mm, is the main distinguishing feature of two large-caliber sniper rifles developed in Kharkov in recent years. In this case, both rifles with a sliding bolt have a large number of common structural elements.

The receiver of the Alligator anti-material rifle is made of steel, while the guide surfaces of the bolt in the receiver are chrome-plated, the chamber and bore of the rifle are also chrome-plated. On the upper part of the receiver, the designers provided a place for the installation of a Picatinny rail, while the guide bar received an inclination angle of 50 MOA, which hints to us that the rifle is designed for long-range shooting. The rifle also received a reliable push-button fuse.

With a total weapon length of 2000 mm, the rifle barrel length is 1200 mm. The barrel of the weapon has 8 grooves with a pitch of 419 mm. The total weight of the rifle without a magazine with cartridges is 22,5 kg, the same weight as the previous model T-Rex. The rifle is equipped with a five-shot box magazine chambered for 14,5x114 mm cartridges, while the magazine itself has two attachment points: a front forked hook and a rear latch lock. The initial bullet velocity is 1000 m / s, the effective firing range is 2000 meters, the maximum bullet flight range is 7000 meters.

Designers from Kharkov initially developed the Alligator anti-material rifle with a fit to the requirements for high-precision weapons. For this, the following design solutions were implemented in the model: a movable barrel, a balanced rifle weight, a rubber butt plate, a massive muzzle brake-compensator. Also, to facilitate shooting from weapons, the model is equipped with bipods, which are adjustable in height and have four fixing positions. For convenient transportation of weapons, the bipod can be folded. In addition, the rifle is equipped with a carrying handle with the ability to change its position. The reversible carry handle is designed to carry the weapon directly to the firing range. For convenient transportation of weapons, the shooter can use a fairly compact case in which the rifle is placed after detaching the barrel.

For the convenience of the shooter, the rifle has a height-adjustable cheek rest, which, if necessary, can be easily rearranged to the right or left relative to the axis of the anti-material rifle. Also, the stock of this model is equipped with a rear support of a special design (monopod), which provides the shooter with the ability to fine-tune the position of the stock for himself and contributes to reliable fixation of the weapon. Cheek and butt pad, as well as all handles are made of special modern models of wear-resistant polymer materials.

The manufacturer did not disclose the accuracy specifications of the new rifle. But earlier in various media it was possible to find information on the previous model T-Rex, for which the declared accuracy of fire was less than 1 MOA (diameter up to 30 mm at a distance of 100 meters). It is curious that the manufacturer gives a three-year warranty on its product, while promising to provide prompt technical support for the model throughout the entire life of the weapon.

The question is, who sharpens their trunks? This, consider, is the most important thing in such a weapon. A very specific detail.

Not specifically interested, not my area of interest.
It was interesting to see about the complexity of making special barrels, and cartridges ... It can be assumed that there will always be an answer to demand, except for mass-produced products, there are, after all, small-scale production, for every taste and color, within reasonable limits, of course ... The price of such products is appropriate.
If you are interested, do you know what cartridges are used for record shots? "Karamultuks", from which they were made, look very solid.

Well, the sniper cartridge is still very different from the usual one. So, I am plagued by vague doubts. Who, besides Russia, produces 14,5mm cartridges? I do not think that Russia will sell even "zinc" to the banderlog.

Nobody canceled the contraband, they can buy through third parties. But you can't make a sniper from an old barrel anyway. Moreover, the trunks are wartime, they cannot be super, super. The tank, the target is large, and they were beating, they tried no further than a couple of hundred meters, point-blank, one might say!
Without the manufacture of special barrels, there is nothing to talk about.

I do not argue, the usual 14,5 - mm. I think you can buy somewhere "on the leftist". But sniper, there are not so many of them, registration and issuance are completely different. As for the trunks, yes. Machine tools and production culture do not fall from the sky. Possible conversion from machine gun barrels. They choose the ones that are better.

I think that nothing will be sold))) this is an exhibition sample, with unknown performance characteristics. Others will sell them. RF is not the navel of the earth.
RF produces a 14,5mm cartridge with a steel sleeve. There is no sniper cartridge in this caliber in the Russian Federation. Ask yourself a question about a steel sleeve for a sniper even an anti-material rifle and answer it yourself.
The 14,5x114m cartridge is produced by South Africa, Serbia, and there are other countries.

South Africa produces cartridges for its 14,5mm rifles, a full range, they do not need to rebuild anything.

In the west, there is no concept of "sniper cartridge".
The sniper cartridge made by the Russian Federation did not stand next to the simple cartridge Norma, Larua or RWS.

What is a sniper cartridge? How does it differ from just a mass produced cartridge?
I'm not a shooter, but I understand that the parameters of the bullet processing quality, the quality of the powder are important! That is, for a manufacturer with a high production culture, these parameters are already on top ...
About our cartridges, mass production, opinions are different, but in general, it will do for battle in general, but not for sniper shooting.
By the way, the record shot was just in South Africa and the kramultuk was 14,5 caliber, I think. I think the cartridges were theirs. Special production or serial, just high quality, I will not say this.

In Russia, private manufacturers also make fairly high-quality cartridges. My former colleague, served in the MP of the Northern Fleet as a sniper, before a business trip to Chechnya, bought cartridges in a store. But we must understand that there is a difference, when a plant makes 1000 cartridges a day and a million a week, mass production is alas a drop in quality.

              hi
In winter, we discussed the topic:
The concern from Belarus has established the production of cartridges 7,62x54, 7,62x39 and 9x19
Ammunition is being supplied to a certain "European country".

Perhaps Belspetsvneshtekhnika will start producing cartridges 14,5х114.
Revolution is revolution, and lunch is on schedule.

State Enterprise "Fort" (Vinnitsa, Ukraine) produces pistol cartridges 9x18mm (Makarov) and 9x19mm (Luger).
And there you can probably start a line for the production of cartridges 14,5x114.

In the West, large-caliber sniper rifles are usually classified as anti-materiel rifle, designed to neutralize or critically damage expensive equipment and unarmored enemy military equipment: radar equipment, guided missiles on launchers, gas tanks and containers with oil products, and other objects, while shooting at manpower is a secondary task
So antimatter is initially not in terms of manpower, but in terms of technology and equipment.

This means that this weapon is intended for shooting mainly at materiel, and not at people.

Well, here it is. Most likely, shooting at extreme ranges will either be carried out extremely rarely, with mass production, or this is the only way it will be conducted. In the first case, the accuracy of a standard cartridge selected by a sniper from the conditional zinc of similar cartridges may be enough for a nominal thousand meters. In the second, you can set up a small-scale production of cartridges for similar tasks.

Are you talking about this "Separatist"?
              23mm Separatist Donbass
In my opinion, heavy and not agile ... Can immediately take
              pak 35-36 37mm
37mm Pak 35/36 - on wheels ("easy to carry"), weight 480kg, but you can remove the shield, larger caliber (higher armor penetration), in height
"about the same", what will we set the sight? - there are a lot of modern models ... Plus Pak 35/36 - already worked out recoil device systems, Minus - you need to look for suitable ammunition ... if you have one or your own production - good. However, the best "anti-materiel rifle" - ATGM good

The fact that the Ukrainians have made rifles is not surprising.
All technical solutions are known. If there are competent designers (and if they are paid and they are focused on the result), good equipment, access to modern materials and coatings, then the problem in this area is solved. Uzlovaye "Lego" works very well in this area.
The example of "Zbroyar" also says something. We mastered production in due time.

Ukraine itself can make barrels from 30mm to 155mm.
Zbroyar made rifles up to 338LM, but I saw this 10 years ago, when K.Konev worked there.
So there is nothing surprising in the development of large calibers, there is nothing surprising in the fact that they can order blanks of barrels and reamers over the hill, but there is also an opportunity to forge barrels in Austria.

                      1-there 14,5

They have absolutely no problems ordering and receiving barrel forms from Germany, the USA, Austria, etc. Even now, some enterprises of the Russian Federation are doing this procedure, despite the imposed sanctions.
There is no difference in the calibers of the blanks, either .338LM, 50BMG, 12,7x108mm, 14,5x114mm, 20x42mm, 20x83mm, 20x110mm. Barrel blank is not a licensed product.
It is easier to find (order) behind a hillock than a polished bar in the Russian Federation. Reaming for the cartridge is also not a problem. Everything depends on not so much money - equipment, qualified designers, technologists, operators and their salaries - everything.
It was already noted above that you don't need many such rifles. Accordingly, the enterprise can be small.
If they made money on a blend of chemicals and hydrocarbons (all sorts of lubricants) (or received budget or investor money), then by throwing money into a large-caliber rifle (if there was a market or government order), they diversified their enterprise. This is an objective and correct step.

How many shots will the barrel last? If my memory serves me correctly, the PTR of the Second World War had a very modest resource measured in hundreds of shots. Did the Kharkov gunsmiths go far away from them?

Well, they seem to be shorter ... But I can't vouch for the fact that the originals of the PTRD simply did not drink in half. For nowhere did I find information on the resource of the barrel, even on the manufacturer's website (but there is no information about the alligator, either it is secret, or they just forgot that they have it).

These rifles described above occupy their specific niche in the weapon system.
South Africa is one of the leaders and trendsetters in this direction.
Azerbaijan has also mastered production, including exporting these weapons.
These rifles allow, without aplomb, within the limits of their competence, to quickly and inexpensively solve certain combat missions.
A commercial structure will not simply engage in altruism, which means there is a demand.
Judging by the external vetch, the level of design solutions, the technique of execution and the quality of the coating are very high. According to these indicators, there is not a single serial rifle in these calibers of this level in the Russian Federation.
Sight USA, Knight Force. The powerful muzzle brake makes shooting comfortable for the shooter and reduces the load on the sight. If the rifle has a movable barrel, then this recoil is even less. The barrel resource is positioned about 5000 shots.

Tell your grandmother about the barrel resource of 5000 shots. Taking into account the initial bullet speed of 1000 m / s and the absence of a leading copper belt, the barrel resource, I believe, is not more than 500 shots.

I wrote what they have indicated in the performance characteristics of the rifle.
The fact that the barrel of a 12,7mm OSV-96 rifle with the SPTs12,7 cartridge provides a resource of more than 7000 shots is not considered a fairy tale for you?

Cartridge 12,7 * 108 contains almost half the amount of gunpowder and therefore creates much less pressure and less wear on the barrel.

The pressure in these cartridges is about the same, about 310MPA for 12,7mm and 330MPA - 14,5mm, but only proceed from the fact that the bullet of the SPTs12,7 cartridge is made of single-element medium carbon steel, i.e. it has neither copper VP, nor VP made of other easily plastic material, nor a lead jacket, nor a shell (from tombak or bimetallic). But the resource of the barrel of a 12,7mm rifle is provided (more than 7000 shots).

I doubt they would switch to a steel bullet. They did not dare to do this even during the Second World War, when billions of copies of cartridges were required, bullets were still fired with a tombak jacket, although of course, an average rifle, machine gun or machine gun, in a massacre, simply did not have time to develop the resource of its barrel.

Having a cat on the couch and having doubts is one thing, but making a rifle like in Ukraine and a SPC 12,7 cartridge with a single-element steel chiseled bullet like in TsKIB SOO is completely different

And you can prove the barrel resource. The original PTRD has a resource of 150-200 rounds. Azerbaijan's Istiglal in 2008 has a resource of 700 rounds, but this is leveled by a quick-change barrel like a machine gun.

And here there is no official information. I would like to see if the crocodile is as cool as it is painted.

They lie in the video. The tracer bullet will not hit far point targets. I saw how others do it and tried it myself on Kubinka with OSV-96 at 830m brick by brick. Not once with the B-32. With TWS 12,7, the trained shooter does 5 out of 5.

What is a sniper cartridge? How does it differ from just a mass produced cartridge?
I'm not a shooter, but I understand that the parameters of the bullet processing quality, the quality of the powder are important! That is, for a manufacturer with a high production culture, these parameters are already on top ...

You yourself answered your question: for a manufacturer with a high production culture, these parameters are already at their best ...
In the Russian Federation for a normal cartridge there is no:
    1. capsule with standardized parameters;
    2. gunpowder, providing the required speed at the normalized pressure and thermostable;
    3. brass with standardized parameters for the sleeve.
And a bullet of the Berger level will never be made at the current factories of the Russian Federation.
Well, so we can and do everything.
There are almost no questions about the "Valovka" for the machine gun, but only sometimes the sleeve breaks and its remains are very difficult and long to pull out of the machine gun chamber. And so everything is fine.

And yet, if you noticed a strong muzzle flame in the video about 14,5mm, this suggests that the cartridge is not with normal gunpowder, or is old.
