In Russia, a new family of armored vehicles "VPK-Strela" has been developed. The development was carried out by specialists of the Military Industrial Company (VPK LLC) on an initiative basis. This was announced by Director General of the military-industrial complex Alexander Krasovitsky.
According to Krasovitsky, "VPK" has developed a new family of light armored vehicles that can be transported on the external suspension of a Mi-8 helicopter. Currently made an experimental sample of a new armored car.
On an initiative basis, as soon as possible, the designers of the Military Industrial Company LLC developed and proposed a concept for creating light class cars, within the framework of which an experimental prototype of an armored vehicle from the VPK-Strela family was developed and manufactured.
- he said.
The general director of the military-industrial complex explained that the new Strela armored car is designed to transport people and various cargoes with the required level of armor protection. The machine can be used in various qualities, taking into account the tasks.
The gross vehicle weight is only 4,7 tons, while the armor provides ballistic protection of the 2nd class (protects from bullets with a heat-strengthened core of a cartridge of caliber 5,45x39 mm from AK-74, bullets with a heat-strengthened core of a cartridge of caliber 7,62x39 mm from AKM , bullets with a non-heat-strengthened core of a cartridge of 7,62x54 mm caliber from SVD). Mine protection provides protection for the crew when undermining under the wheel of explosive devices up to 2 kg of TNT.
Max. highway speed - up to 155 km / h, capacity - up to 8 people. The design of the machine is based on promising 100% Russian units, components and parts, planned for development in the mass production of the domestic auto industry.
It is emphasized that the small mass of the armored car allows you to quickly transfer it to the external sling of transport-combat helicopters of the Mi-8 type.
To date, there are simply no such armored vehicles in service with our army.
