US Department of Defense orders an additional 78 F-35 fighters

The U.S. Department of Defense has entered into an additional agreement to supply 78 fifth-generation F-35 Lightning II multipurpose fighters. This was reported by the press service of the US military.
According to available information, the Pentagon has signed an additional agreement for the supply of 78 fifth-generation fighters, including 48 F-35A for the US Air Force, 14 F-35B fighters for the KMP and 16 carrier-based F-35C fighters for the Navy. The cost of the agreement is 4,7 billion dollars, the aircraft should be delivered by March 2023.
An additional agreement to the main contract has been concluded with Lockheed Martin Corporation, which provides for the production of 78 F-35 family fighters, including 48 F-35A for the Air Force, 14 short-take-off and landing fighters F-35B for Marine Corps and 16 F-35C carrier-based fighter aircraft for the Navy
- said in a statement to the US Department of Defense.
Recall that today the US Army is armed with 354 fifth-generation F-35 fighters of all types, all in all, given the supply to foreign partners in the F-35 creation program and NATO allies, the corporation delivered 500 fighters. At the same time, the United States notes that the F-35 production program is significantly behind the previously planned volumes. According to the plans of the Pentagon, by March of this year it was planned to purchase a total of 2456 F-35 fighters of all types.
