The dates for showing the upgraded version of the BTR-82A - BTR-82AT

BTR-82A at the marine exercises

The upgraded version of the BTR-82A armored personnel carrier - BTR-82AT will be shown for the first time at the Army 2020 forum, which will be held from August 23 to 29, 2020 in the Patriot park in Kubinka. This was stated by the CEO of the developer of this equipment, "Military Industrial Company" (LLC "VPK") Alexander Krasovitsky.

Answering a question from RIA News, Krasovitsky explained that the new version of the BTR-82A, namely the BTR-82AT, will be presented to the Army 2020 forum. The upgraded armored personnel carrier is equipped with a set of additional armored and trellis screens, a new sighting system with a thermal imager and an independent line of sight, a new digital radio station R-168-25U and the Trona-A1 navigation system capable of working both with satellites and offline with using a laser gyro.

Also, according to the general director of the military-industrial complex, the BTR-82AT will be the first domestic combat vehicle in which air conditioning is installed.

The BTR-82A, which was adopted in December 2012 and the one that enters the troops now, of course, is different. We are constantly working on improving it. Over the past 2-3 years, we have made more than 1000 improvements to the design of the armored personnel carrier

- said Krasovitsky, adding that many improvements were made on the basis of information coming directly from the military, operating this equipment.

The work on the new version of the BTR-82A became known in 2016. At the KADEX-2016 exhibition, Krasovitsky said that the Ministry of Defense had ordered the modernization of an armored personnel carrier and the company had already begun OCD on this topic.

I heard that they wanted to refuse the side door during the Afghan war, right after the first ambushes in the mountains, where the landing fell under fire at the exit of the APC. Now I looked at the pictures of the BTR-82AT from all sides and ... the engine is behind! So this "feature" is not removable in the 80th series.

But this is debatable. Himself always believed that the feed yield of the armored personnel carrier for the good. Until he talked with an Afghan man. The company commander was in the DShB. More often came under fire during the movement of the convoy in the mountains. And the airborne exit was just what we needed. They went to the opposite side of the shelling under cover. To deploy an APC across the road is not always possible.
But for the Marines, it is preferable to have a feed exit. Their armored personnel carrier acts as an infantry fighting vehicle, and when landing on the coast, it is necessary to attack head-on.

Here you are - BTR-87. The door is behind. Only no one is in a hurry to promote it. Apparently, this is not the door.

Well, then the BTR-82 is just a modernization of the 80s with the same armored corps, therefore, the landing also comes from the sides.
Without changing the armored hull, of course, is not removable.

Sorry, and when you exit the rear of the folding ramp, the landing will not fall under fire ....? BTR-80 (82) has the opportunity, when fired from one side, to go to the other, which by the way we sometimes worked out ..... Armored vehicles with a fashionable rear hinged ramp have one way out, and there is no guarantee that shelling will go in front ....

Now it remains only to hope that the MO will purchase a new version, and upgrade the old one.

Obviously, armored personnel carriers on the boomerang platform will not be delivered to the troops in the near future. Since they’re busy with the eighties .... Only they will ride in parades ... I wonder why then they do not buy the BTR-87. As usual, at the Army exhibition, 2019 was shown and offered to others))). 87 combat module more powerful than 82, frontal protection due to the front location of the MTO is better, landing through the rear doors, propellers. 87 is more convenient than 82. However, as with the T-72B3, they are purchased, not 90))

not at all obvious. to maintain combat readiness, thousands of machines will still have to be upgraded or replaced. Boomerang will not replace the entire park in a year. This is a process for decades. the point is not at all to replace as such, but to not lose the ability of units to carry out assigned tasks during rearmament.

For marines, for example, the 87th is worse than the 82nd. Centering for afloat is worse. Yes, and the 82nd was mastered, it remains to be seen which "battles" in the troops from the 87th will climb out.

It is officially announced that in June state tests of Kurgan will begin, which will last 2 years. 4 cars were presented for testing, 2 in a new enlarged case, which is associated with improvements in the ergonomics of the fighting compartment. You can look at Courage in the profile topic for exact quotes from responsible comrades.

Yes, no, you're a fan of the sofa. And at least I know the story. The Germans also had everything with conveniences. But those who won were important to victory, and not convenience.

Air conditioning is cool! Will the bathtub be there? It would be nice to have a movie theater and a waitress serving coffee to the crew.

A great example of a sofa post.

In general, those who were involved in such vehicles, especially in the Caucasus, are well aware of why air conditioning is needed in armored vehicles.

Of course, it is necessary to upgrade, not to cut it, but the BTR-80, sorry, 82, has outlived itself.

"Over the past 2-3 years, we have made more than 1000 improvements to the design of the armored personnel carrier."
365 x 3 = 1079 days, more than 1000 improvements. Why are daily adjustments required? Does anyone know how the BTR-82A went into production?

this is an ongoing process. reviews come or new solutions appear. It has always been that way. So much in recent years is just an attempt to give the customer what he wants. also quite common.

KAMAZ also thinks about customers, that’s right. But to make changes to the flow charts on the production floor every day is abnormal. Even if the add-ons are microscopic, their design into the entire documentation “brain will peck” to the performers.

    Not a fact.
If the light, medium and heavy brigades of Boomerang are 32 tonnes and go on the principle, they belong to the middle platform, just like Kurganets.
Typhoons, Athletes to lightweight, I don’t know, of course, why cardboard 82 is still needed, but if it is brought to 12,7 armor protection and makes it comfortable for shooters, then the norms. Also, if management and information content for the crew, then too, the norms, they will occupy their niche. Also, as I suppose, if BMP 3 continues, in a new modification, it will also belong to the light brigade, it seems to be in the region of 21 t

    Ps
Regarding the exit from the side, it was rightly noted here that there are times when this is really a chance to survive behind the hood of a car, and since all equipment has aft, it is also an option to have this option, especially since it already exists.
There are also tactical moments when an exit through the side can come in handy, for example, a patrol station along the road, or blocking the track ... well, there are many things you can put forward

Yes, for good, it’s time to refuse this lightly armored taxi, because this scheme has been in operation since the BTR-60 for about 50 years. In the next 10 years, we should slowly sell them to the side, and for ourselves to purchase new developments such as the Kurgan.

I noticed that in 9 out of 10 cases, the PC machine gun in the tower is NOT installed! What's the matter? Are there really installation difficulties?
