The first firing of the latest anti-aircraft missile system (SAM) S-350 Vityaz took place at the Kapustin Yar firing range in the Astrakhan region, the press service of the Ministry of Defense reports.

It is reported that during the exercises, the combat calculations of the S-350 Vityaz air defense missile systems also worked out the detection and conditional destruction of real air targets imitated by MiG-29SMT fighters.
The Ministry of Defense noted that the first S-350 anti-aircraft missile system will arrive at the permanent deployment point in the Leningrad Region in the near future.
On the 20th of December last year, the press service of the Almaz-Antey aerospace defense group announced the transfer of the first S-350 Vityaz air defense system to the anti-aircraft regiment of the Russian Aerospace Forces. The transfer took place at the Kapustin Yar training ground in the Astrakhan region.
The Vityaz C-350 air defense missile system is a medium-range complex used for organizing air defense of important administrative or military facilities against attacks from various air attack weapons. It is focused on the creation of multi-stage protection to ensure the security of the airspace of the state. SAMs can hit manned aircraft (airplanes, helicopters), drones, as well as cruise and ballistic missiles. In addition, it is able to prevent attacks from low-flying objects. The complex is intended to replace the C-300PS and Buk-М1-2 troops.
SAM "Vityaz" is able to work in automatic mode, in which the calculation ensures the deployment of air defense systems and control over the actions of the system. The maximum number of simultaneously hit aerodynamic targets - 16, ballistic - 12. The maximum range of destruction - 60 km, height - 30 km. The deployment time of the system in the combat position - 5 minutes.
